Does anyone have any information about him. He was my Great Grandfather but apart from a couple of appearences in the census reports and his marriage certificate I know nothing else. I have tried to find a birth certificate and a registration of his death but they do not seem to exhist. Any information would be much appreciated.

You have not given any dates, but I wonder whether you are referring to the Edward Gwilt (b.c.1828, Beguildy, Radnorshire) who married Jane Corbett (GRO 1860Q3 Walsall 6b/710) or one of their descendants?

If this is likely to be the one, I have his family a couple of generations back as being from Kerry in Montgomeryshire.

I have an Edward Gwilt from Walsall in my familty tree. I have so far managed to get information going back a further 5 generations before him but would love to share this information with anyone and hopefully add to both our trees.
my tree is http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/34112296/family but I have recently started another on on another site, myhetitage.com http://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-275129351/gwilt-f...

Do you have sources to back your conclusions?

I agree that Richard Gwilt chr 20 Jun 1802 at Kerry, Montgomeryshire was the son of Edward and Jane, but I have found three Edward and Janes - Edward Gwilt (c.1764-1837) of Kerry and then Guilsfield married Jane Parry (c.1762-1829) at Kerry on 6th December 1789, and Edward Gwilt of Churchstoke married Jane Jones in Churchstoke on 13th June 1793, and then another Edward Gwilt married Jane Morris at Chirbury on 30th September 1797.

I am not convinced that any of the three Edwards were the son of Francis Gwilt and Jane Beaumont - with his baptism date of 1753 he strikes me as being too old.

My view, based primarily upon location, is that your Richard was the son of Edward Gwilt and Jane Parry of Kerry, and that Edward of Kerry was christened at Kerry on 20th September 1764, the son of Edward Gwilt and Elizabeth Kinsey who married in Kerry on 15th May 1764. My suspicion is that Edward senior was buried at Kerry on 23rd October 1791 (abode give as Trellan) and that his wife (same abode) was buried at Kerry on 11th September 1782.

I am finding the Gwilts in this region very problematical, too many occurrances of the same names (Edward, Richard, Francis......)
