I have traced my family back to Bishopwood, Hereford in 1853 with an Arthur James Gwatkin. He worked for the Railway, as has a lot of my family. I have as yet been unable to find his birth certificate, but he married Mary Ann Monk in 1878. She was from Ryeford in Gloucestershire.
If anyone has come across this part of my family, i would love to hear from you.
Regards, Claire

An ancestor of mine Clara Theresa Jane Goodden married a James Charles Gwatkin in 1888 in Trinity Church Abergavnney. It states on the marriage certificate that James was a Decorator. If this James is a possible ancestor of yours please let me know as I have other information about Clara and James that might be of interest to you and I have some unanswered questions that you might be able to help me with.

Sorry, but I've no reason to suppose that James Charles Gwatkin bears any relation to me at all.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Pamela,

Your Gwatkin does sound like he is the brother to the fellow who married into the Saies family.
I have been unable to find much else out about the Gwatkin but would be most interested in what info you may have. You are welcome to reply to: jabond@tpg.com.au
Cheers
Jocelyn

James and Clara Gwatkin are my great grand parents. Their were married on the 19th of April 1888.

My grand father was Vernon Charles Henry Gwatkin (b1898). I know he had two surviving brothers Clifford (b1903) and Claude (b1889). Another brother (Ernest) and sister (Hilda) died in infancy.

I would like to contact anybody researching the Gwatkin family in Abergavenny and the Goodden family.

Jason,

I have likewise discovered that my GWATKIN family comes from in or near Goytrey. My gggrandpa MATHEW Gwatkin was baptised there 10/2/1823. He was the son of James Gwatkin and Elizabeth Richards. I know that he had brothers William, Richard, and possibly a James. I have some info coming forward on William's children (he had several sons). There is bound to be some connectiion here and I would love to share information
