My Great Great Great Grandfather was Paul Gwaltney. He was the son of James T. Gwaltney but I'm not sure which of the 2 wives was his mother. Does anyone know?

Rev Sylvester Gwaltney was my 3rd great grandpa. Married First Julia Beloat, second Margaret Smith. With Julia had William. William had son Sylvester, then William just disappeared on me. The second Sylvester, my great grandpa married Terrah Adkins. Mostly White Co., Illinois area. Rev Sylvester ended up in Barnhill, Wayne Co., Illinois.

Would you happen to know what church the elder Sylvester led? Have any info on William?

HI- My 3rd great grandpa was Sylvester Gwaltney. Preacher in Southern Illinois...White Co., & Wayne Co. Had a son by the name of William. William then had two sons. My great grandpa, Sylvester F. Hoping this rings a bell???

My name is Cheryl Gwaltney Duclos. My father was Charles Rae Gwaltney. Our branch was from around Hamilton, Ohio. Although we were unable to go to the family reunion, my dad was able to order and receive the Family Book. My problem is, other than the clan was from Wales, we have no inkling of were our branch was from or who they might have been. I don't know my grandfather's name but my grandmother was Nellie Dwyer. Both my dad and my grandmother was from Hamilton, Ohio.

I see this is a very old message and you've probably found this info by now but on ancestry I found a death certificate for:

John Cline GWALTNEY born Dec 10, 1982 in Virginia, Father Zachary Gwaltney, Mother Mary Lillian Thomas, Wife Opal Foltz. He was a plumber. Died May 10, 1955 at City Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Buried in Salem Cemetery, May 11, 1955.

This isn't my line of Gwaltneys but I found this while researching. Maybe it is the John Cline Gwaltney you are looking for.

His parents were Henry C Hathaway and Julia Antoinette Stalker (11 Mar 1835) His children were Inez Lorraine (17 Dec 1890, married Glenn Dopkins. Robert James; born 19 Aug 1892, married LuLu Francis Granger. Ruby Lucille; born 10 Jul 1895, married Frederick William Eckstrom, born 10 Jul 1895, born in South Bend, IN. Olive Mae (18 Apr 1898) married Arthur C Ringstad (1898). Althea Claire (1900, married Martin Dahl (1900). Beatrice Faye; 13 Jan 1905, married Peter Mangus Nyhus, (Jul 1895). Charles Henry (1908). Gwendolyn June; married Jens Stevenson (27 Oct 1915. Other surnames related to this tree are Watson, Kurtz.
Must of the older generations lived in the Minneapolis/St Paul, MN and Hersy, WS area.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Derrick D. Gwaltney, 21, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Nov. 29 south of Basra, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Fires Brigade, Fort Lewis, Wash.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

According to her death certificate, she is buried in Pineville, WV. It does not mention the cemetery though. It says she died of cervical cancer.

My mother is in ill health, 78, and is searching for the burial site of her mother who died when she was a child. Dottie Gwaltney whose parents were Charles J. Gwaltney and Bertie Reedy, both born around 1889, was born in Rugby, Grayson County VA on Oct 27, 1909, She died on Nov 19, 1938 in Pineville, WV. This information may not be accurate. She married Walter Workman somewhere around 1936. My mother was born prior to that and too I am searching for the man listed on her birth certificate as her father, Graham McGrady, Coalwood, WV. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have bros, Wiley and Thomas Marshall Parish born in Ga
1810 and 1812. Wiley married Mahala Wester in Decatur Co, Ga in 1832. There are my gggrands. I have everything on them from the 1830'2 forward. Wiley and Wyatt were common names of their descendants. The bros settled in Liberty and Calhoun Co, Fla, where I still live. Debbie and I believe there was a connection. The last correspondence we had, she was having difficulty verifing her Wyatt's ancestors.

I would appreciate your input.

Louise Gwaltney 1920 Census for Wakulla County, Florida

Louise was living with Charles and Martha Mooring and was a 12 year old female with a relationship as adopted daughter. In another search, her relationship was listed as adopted grand-child. I can not find Louse in the 1930 census records, but she would of been 22 and possibly married. There were a few Gwaltney's in Wakulla County Florida but so far I can find no connections. Abraham Galtney married Nancy Ann Killian in The Natchez District of pre-territorial Mississippi on 08 Jun 1797. Abraham was born 08 Jun 1770 and Nancy was born about Abt. 1782. Both probably came from Burke Co., NC to Natchez in 1782-1783.

Abraham Galtney (also recorded as Gwaltney, Gaultney) is a son of Benjamin Gwaltney, bn. 1743 VA, died 1785 MS. Benjamin is sometimes called "Etienne (Stephen) Benjamin." He married before 1770 in NC to Hannah Earhart (Erhardt, Airhardt, Airhart), bn. before 1755, and died after 1782 in MS. Benjamin Gwaltney was a carpenter and came to The Natchez District ca. 1782. He was killed while felling a tree near the old courthouse in Natchez, Adams Co., MS.

I would be interested to know if you have this Galtney family in the generations you mentioned.

Hello, I am a Gwartney, but my ancestors seem to be Gwaltney's. The farthest back I can find is Thomas DOB 1590 from Ireland though this is based in what I've found on Ancestry.com. His son was John, his son was William, his son was Micajah Gwartney is is proven in my line. Anything you have that I can connect to my family tree would be wonderful. Micajah Gwartney DOB is 1750 and he married Elizabeth McGuffy.

I also live in Hiddenite, Charlie Judson was my husband's uncle. We live near Charlie's homeplace..Did you hear about the 1st Nationwide Gwaltney Reunion at Smithville,Va. In July, 2008. Lots of info we taced backed to 1600 Thomas Gwaltney from Wales. there were abot 200 in attendence from 17 states I have about 60 pages of names down to 14 generations, will be glad to share with you, if you have not heard.

Dwight Gwaltney of B Company, 126th Engineers, 10th Mountain Division. Dwight Gwaltney told the story about digging a demolition hole and having Colonel William Darby (Famous for Darby's Rangers), who was then the Executive Officer of the 10th Mountain Division, order him to dig the holes faster. Col. Darby turned away and walked about 100 yards and was then killed by an artillery shell.
