Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
My family changed their name to goren - previously it was Gvirtzman. My grandparents, Chaia-Tzvia & Avram Gvirtzman immigrated to Israel in the 1930's (I'm not sure exactly). They were both orphans of some sort of relation- also not clear. I believe my grandfather had 2 brothers. Each brother was assigned a different surname to avoid being drafted to the Russian army. His one brother was surnamed Lieb. Is this the same family?

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
Hi there. My grandparents were Chaya and Avram Gvirtzman, though I think they spelt it Gevirtzman. Could they be the same as yours ? They had 4 children Yula, Luba, Raya and Moshe. They seem to be from Tula, moved to Moscow around 1910, Lithuania 1920, and Palestine 1925, with grandmother's parents. I would very much like to find out more about their relatives, as there seem to be family secrets or feuds. I met a Gvirtzman who looked like my father but they couldn't find any relation (40 years ago).

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
Hi Daniel Happy to check and see if we're related. Did they live in or near Brest? Could you send me their names with DOB information for your grandparents? Then I will check a large database I have on Gvirtzman/Gevirtzman descendents. Karen Lozow kslden@aol.comEnglewood, CO, USA

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
No sorry I don't think Brest came into the story. Chaya was born 24th or 25th December 1889 and died in Israel in 1973. She had trained as a pharmacist. I have lots more info but I don't know where to start.

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
Dear Daniel, My granparents arrived in Palestine with 4 children: the oldest two brothers were twins, Haim & Natan, then Tova and Efraim. Later, in 1938 the next set of twins were born, Meir & Yamkale. Our families sound rather similar with the feuds being a strong common point but the names don't match up. In russia Chaya & Avram had a first born who died at age 2. Please comment, yours adi.

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
Sorry I somehow never got your answer, and just checked the history now. Well it seems it's not the same family, but I will ask my dad. But his generation were born 1917-1921.

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
Hi Daniel, I am quite sure it's not the same family, however interesting some of the similarities are. Chaia died in Israel 1970. Regards Adi

Re: Gvirtzman family from Brestlatoff Russia
Hi, I found this site searching for myself in Google. I live in Argentina, my grandfather was Jacobo Samuel Gvirtzman, my father was David. I´m not sure where the family came from, there is no one alive to ask. May be Jacobo was the immigrant, who knows. But the only thing I can assure you is that they ended up in South America, Buenos Aires. Do you know anything about us being related? Thank you. Judy.
