To Richard who asked about how Darbonne came
from Guyon: The progressin of names is
explained: de buisson was the tract of land
granted to Jean Guyon in Guebec; Despres meant the land were meadows; d'Herbanne meant
the Queen Anne's lace, thus emerged Darbonne.

I have the link that links the Guyons you are looking at to Antoine Dela Mothe or Cadillac the founder of Detroit.
I am a direct decendant to the Guyons you are looking at and we are not blood related to Cadillac but to his wife, Marie Therese Guyon.
I have all the info you want on Guyons, starting at Julia Guyon who was my GGM mother who was Marie Tavernier.

Hi Ed,
I was wondering if you could give me the names of Jean and Mathurine's children and the names of Jean's siblings. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

I, too, am a 'Dion' and descended from Jacques Guyon. I have recently found 9 Guyons (all in France between 1616-1688: Antoine Guyon m. Anne Lambert w/ son Paul Guyon (d.1645)m. Isabeau Vallantin- children: Charles Guyon (b.1617) Francoise Guyon (1616-1688), Louise Guyon (b.1616), Daniel Guyon (b.1963 France)m.Corinne Chicheportiche-Children: Rebecca Guyon, Meredith Guyon.
Are these connected to the Jean Jacques Guyon French line? They are listed on a Jewish Family Tree website- Is there a Jewish line of Guyons in the Guyon/Dion line?

Did you ever find out why 'Guyon' was changed to 'Dion'? Or where the surname Guyon came from? Have you heard that it was from the French for 'leader or guide'? I can't remember where I saw that posted. I ask becuase of the similarity of 'Dion' and the earlier 'Guyon' to the name 'Dayan', the Hebrew name for a leader/judge/guide (in Jewish religious matters). In early Hebrew only consonants were used making the important letters D-Y-N; 'G' is often transaliterated into a 'D'. It is also interesting that the 'Guyon' name can olnly be traced to around 1500....time in the middle ages when many Jews were hiding their family names to avoid persecution in Europe.
May be no connection but an interesting idea.
G.

Forgive me, Michele, I cannot remember if I already answered your posting.
The website that lists the Jewish Guyons is:
JewishGen.com
The Guyon line suddenly appears around 1500. That is a time when many Merranos (Jewish families hiding their faith/identity by outwardly joining the Catholic church)flooded into France, mostly from Spain and Portugal. It is merely a possibility but 'Guyon is close to the Hebrew family name 'Dayan' which means 'Judge. 'Dayan' was changed to'Dion' by Jewish families who fled to Russia centuries ago. This family line still exhists today (descendants of the tribe of Dan).
