Guy Heritage,any connections?
I am looking for the origin of my Guy Family. There were rumors of them coming from Ireland to NC then to GA,but that is not comfiremed.Guy though is not of Irish origin. My great Grandfather was Walter Clarence Guy,they just called him Clarence. He married Ruth M Griffin. His fathers name was William "Bill" Guy the 3rd(1882-1947?(GA),and his mother was Martha Hickox. I would just like to know if anyone has the same family or knows where and when they came to America. Thanks

Re: Guy Heritage,any connections?
Hi Theresa. I have no idea whether there is any connection between our Guy families but a couple things in your posting caught my attention. First, people in my line were also told that there was an Irish connection. Haven't found it if that's true. What I have found is that my Guy family is of Saponi descent. That is a tribe of Native Americans originally found in Virginia and North Carolina. Another prominant name in the Saponi tribe is Hitchcock or Hathcock. I was struck by the similarity to another of your ancestor's names. My line of Guys is Vines Guy (Elizabeth "Betsie" Jefferies), Thomas Guy (Adaline Burnett), Mary Jane Guy (William B. Jones), etc. My Guy family originated in Virginia, moved to North Carolina, then to Ohio where a group of Saponi families moved together to Greene County. This group included Hitchcock or Hathcock families. Some of my family then moved on to Delaware County, Indiana. Hope this helps you or at least gives you another direction to explore.

Re: Guy Heritage,any connections?
Hi, I am searching for Guy families in Georgia and also Alabama. I am looking for Joel W. Guy's family . He was born Aug.9,1829 in Georgia (that's all that's shown). I can find nothing at all so far on his parents except census shows they were both born in Georgia. The 1860 census shows Joel in Southern Division, Talladega, Alabama. I have more on him. Don't know if that helps your search.

Re: Guy Heritage,any connections?
There was an interesting post on www.genforum.com/guy/messages/1896. concerning the Guy surname.by Sandy Stewart...post #1896. What she found was the Guy name is of French origin. On www.ancesrty.com/facts/Guy-places-origin.Their site says Guy name is English(of Norman origin) and French : from a French form of the Germanic name Gui. There are maps, etc. and lots of facts on that site. There seems to be a lot to learn.

Re: Guy Heritage,any connections?
I am researching my great grandmother, Lenora Guy. Her father was Cavassor, or C.L. Guy. I think his father was Z.H. Guy. Which would mean.....Georgia and Texas traces. We have two family bibles that have those names, but seems to stop there.

Re: Guy Heritage,any connections?
Hi Everyone, I am a Guy (via my Mother's family). Mum and her parents & brothers came to Canada after WW2, from Englad. We just celebrated her 80th birthday last night and my uncle (John Guy) was a great help with relaying stories. He told me that the Guy origin is French, from the Huguenot's line. I am attaching a link here... have a look at it. You will see it mentions that a considerable number of Huguenots migrated to British North America, especially to the Carolinas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. It is a very interesting history. Good luck in your searches. http://huguenot.netnation.com/general/huguenot.htmJen
