Surnames: Gutcher, Gagnon, Francouer, Duguay, Cayen, Evans, Romain
I am looking for information regarding George Gutcher who emigrated from Germany to Canada and who lived in Westmeath, Renfrew, Ontario. He married my GGGrandmother Lydia Evans who it seems was born in Germany about 1814 she emigrated from Germany to Canada and at some point married George Gutcher. The had a son named Abraham. George died and Lydia married Louis Francoeur on May 12, 1868 at Allumette Island, Pontiac, Quebec Canada. She and Louis whose mother was Marguerite Berube and father Louis Francoeur; had childrend Emilia Francoeur and Mary Jane Francoeur. After Louis' death Lydia married Mr. Gagnon whose name Abraham passed to his children two of which are my Grandmothers Sarah and Adeline.

MaryJane Francoeur married Edmond Cayen who father was John Baptiste Cayen and Mother Marceline Brazeau. They had at least one child Joseph Jean Baptiste Louis Edouard Cayen Born 1897 and Christened 18 July 1897 at St. Columbkille, Pembroke, Renfrew, Ontario Canada

If anyone out there has relatives with these names, please get in touch. josiehiscock@rogers.com

Thanks and Good Hunting. JHiscock

hello joanne
My name is
don Blackwell. I am the son of Noella Cayen whose father was Jean Baptiste Cayen, who was the son of Jean Baptiste Cayen and Sophia Laberge (married 1890). His father was also Jean Baptiste Cayen who was married to Marciline Brazeau in 1871. So far I have only been able to get this far in my search of this Cayen clan. All of this happened in the Pembroke district during the mid to late 1800's. My grandfather and grandmother (Sabourin) were married in the town of Chelmsford Ontario and then moved to the town of Creighton Mine where my grandfather worked in the mines. Hope this helps your search. Please forward any thing you can find before the 1871 date. thank you. Don

hi there,
I have been searching for my grandmother's history. Her father was Joseph George Gagnon, whose father was George Gagnon - alias Abraham Gutcher (married to Zephirin Romain).
Curiosly, when typing in the children's birthdates of George Gutcher and Lydia Evans, one of the Gutcher children, George, was flagged because he was born 3 yrs after George gutcher died. I was wondering if somewhere there is a mistake, and that George gagnon was not Abraham gutcher, but his brother George gutcher, and perhaps he was illegitamate, and rightfully a gagnon, and that is why he changed his name to gagnon. All of this abraham Gutcher/George Gagnon children are Gagnon's. My Grandmother told me they just up and changed the name, as it only cost a dollar back in those days. I haven't seen a record of Lydia Evans marrying a Gagnon?

thanks,
Kate

Don Blackwell:
Sorry I am just getting back to you but we were away on a genealogical hunt through Westmeath, Quebec and the Gaspe.

How are you related to the Gutcher's? Let me have a look in my notes because the name Cayen does, I believe come up in my history. You may email me at jhiscoc@telus.net
Thanks J H

Hi Jo-anne,
Just read your other email, and yes, I am in the Sault. You must be the one my Mom wanted me to get in touch with! So glad I found you. I was so busy at that time with my husband's accident and all (he is home now, and getting stronger all the time). Anyway, I would love to hear the story on the name change! Thanks,
Kate
