Sorry it took so long to reply. I haven't been too active with my research lately. I don't know if you've found Marcelline Brazeau's parents yet, but here is my info:
Marcelline's parents are Antoine Brazeau and Emélie Belair, married April 7 1834 in Vaudreuil Quebec. Emélie's parents are Etienne Bélair Robidoux and Josephte Gagnon and Antoine's parents are Joseph Brazeau and Véronique Trottier, married May 18 1804 at Ste-Genevieve in Montreal. Hope this helps

Hi Kate:
Uncle Joe Gagnon was really Joseph Gutcher. His father was Abraham George Gutcher but he took the name of Gagnon.
The George Gagnon who was born in 1866, 6 years after the original George Gutcher had died is still a mystery. He married a woman named Lizzie Monk.
Why did Abraham take the Gagnon name? No one knows for certain, but you will find if you search that is Sister Mary Annie who married a William McFarlane used the Gagnon as her maiden name when her son Robert married his cousin Mabel Gutcher. Prior to that she used Gutcher.
It is possible that Lydia Evans either married Mr. Gagnon became pregnant and then he died, then why the convoluted mystery. For some reason the son Abraham took the name Gagnon. In order to tie all of the Gutcher family together I have chosen to use the name as Gagnon Gutcher. That way all of Abraham's brothers and sisters can be tied in because none of the others took the Gagnon name. Jo-Anne Hiscock

The Gutchers were not native. Their father was from Germany and their mother was French and Irish.

Lesley, I believe I told you that Gagnon was not their real name. The father came from Germany and his name was Gutcher so we have no claim to the Gagnon name. J
