How do you pronounce "Guse"?
I am just starting to research the Guse family. My question is how you pronounce the surname. My husband's family pronounces it "goosie", but I wonder if that isn't an Americanization.
Wondering if anyone else has found out the "true" pronunciation(s). Thanks!

Re: How do you pronounce "Guse"?
My mother's grandmother (Ernstine Kepp Wibralska) married William Guse in Minnesota after the death of her first husband, Friedrich August Wibralski. She called her "Grandma Goosey." I hope this helps!

Re: How do you pronounce "Guse"?
The pronunciation is 'Goosie' from Germany. My grandparents settled in Southern Ontario Canada I believe from Germany their names are William and Minnie - not sure on Minnies maiden name. But, I do know how they stressed it is pronounced "Goosie".

Re: How do you pronounce "Guse"?
You mentioned: ". . if anyone ... found out the "true" pronunciation." There are many. In Germany, there is only one; but in the new world, there are quite a few. In the old country, German pronunciation rules apply, so the name Guse is pronounced as if it were Gusa. (rhymes with Azusa) But, here all the variations are perfectly okay. Back home in Illinois, the Guse family name sounds like "doozy" among many other easy rhymes; if you're not too choosy. :-) Clay

Re: How do you pronounce "Guse"?
My Daughter in law is a Guse from Minnesota and her family says Goozie as well. My son has some German ancestors also. From my side there are Berngrubers of Ansbach, Hesse (Bavaria) and from my wife's side Clos (don't know a locale).

Re: How do you pronounce "Guse"?
Albert Guse (b: 1866) immigrated from Germany to Canada and settled near Sudbury, Ontario. The generations following have been pronouncing it GOOZE.
