Hi. I am trying to trace my family (Girl). Some argument among family that the name may have been spelled differently at one time. Do you know any records of Gural being changed to Girl? Thanks...Gina

Surnames: Gural, Goral, Guralnick
Father - Roger Gural (family rumor has it that his name at birth was Vladimir - how reliable that is, I don't know...I saw his birth certificate & says Roger) b. July 25, 1918 - d. June 4, 1985.
Grandfather - Peter Gural from Austria
Grandmother Anna (Zadwarnia? (maiden)) Gural from Ukraine
Although we only have 1 "L" at the end, I'm sure we all are related somehow. Other variences are Goral (seen on a picture of a headstone buried next to my Grandmother) & Guralnick.

To answer your original question, probably so. I have had my name mispronounced like that many times, much to my chagrin. The change was most likely at Ellis Island in the very early 1900's.
