I will also send you the same information I just posted to another Gura researcher. My stepmothers fathers name was Joseph Gura and the story is that he imigrated from Poland around the turn of the century or early 1900's. His wifes name was Mary though and they had 4 children, Rita, Victor, Norman and Bernice. If any of these names ring a bell then there might be a connection.

I believe that I may be a distant cousin to the Illinois Guras. My father, John Sr. has told me that he was third or fourth cousin to Larry Gura who was once a pitcher for the KC Royals and was from Illinois.

John, I can't recall sending the information that I have, which by the way, turns out NOT to be part of my line, but seems fairly complete. I have it in a Word Doc file but am happy to send it to you. Send me your email address: Mine is deano@kosher.com

I don't know if we are related or not. I am the grandaughter of the late Andrew Stephoneous Gura, Sr. He was born in 1867, and I believe that he immigrated from Poland in the early 1900's. He married Sophia Havanchuck (born 1884-died 1940) (or the name could be Chovancek, Chonanozah, or Howenchak). She is from Chekoslovakia (spelling may not be correct). Together they had 11 children. Andrew Gura died in 1967 in Rayland, Ohio where he spent the majority of his life. They are both buried in Yorkville, Ohio. I am looking for anyone who might be related to this Gura family. I have one Uncle, Sgt. Matthew Gura, who was reported missing in the Korean War in 1950 at the age of 24. I am also looking for any information that anyone might have on this family member. Please feel free to e-mail me.
