Note from GB at bottom of page:
"Information via unusual circumstances-thru Mrs Florence Prince, Wolfeboro Historical Society of WILLIAM GUPPY House. The Society was closed for the Winter Season, but a neighbor who was raking leaves, asked to assist me. Inviting me into her house, she promptly telephoned a Mrs. Florence Prince. Between these two ladies I learned this:- All these houses on South Main Street back up to the beautiful LAKE Winnipesauke, as does the General Wolfe House. But Huggins Hospital is directly across the Street, plus churches. The town was named for General Wolfe out of respect for the man.
This street was once tramped by soldiers in the War years (1846 - 47.)
Later became a Coach Road, and now lined with beautiful houses and Inns. The FLYING EAGLE was once the HART House, then owned by William Guppy (years 1817-1819) Later it was Buzzell's House. And now owned by a Mr. Buzzy Melanson (1972.) The Flying Eagle Plaque still decorated the building. I read that the next house, the Pickering House, had been a Tavern.
The Ladies told me William Guppy was a financially comfortable citizen and active in all town business, and matched amounts raised for projects. Also Maria Guppy, his daughter, had attended the Academy. This William Guppy's progenitors went back to Joshua, born 1732, Twin James. Back further to Kingwall (James), and Joshua in Salem 1601 1632.
I have yet to learn of his demise (suddenly, while in GOOD HEALTH, as one recod states. For the benefit of his 2nd wife and children who later sold the property in Wolfeboro (His first wife - Comfort Meserve)"
September 1972 - Gertrude (McDermott) Ballam

I have copied this page as typed by GB-she thought that Joshua and his brother James (of Portsmouth and Dover) had been twins. Judy Ranta and others believe that James was the older brother b. 1732 and Joshua b. 1739, the younger brother. As for Kingwall (James) and another Joshua in Salem in 1601 and Dover 1632, there is no record. Also based on research by Judy Ranta, William Guppy had been involved in numerous legal battles throughout his life. William was the father of Betsey Guppy Chamberlain and others.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Guppy
I hope someone answers. Have been trying to connect with Judy as well.

I need to know about Kingwall Guppy. Then James was living in Beverly MA and his father Joshua died, it is said that his mother relinquished his care to Capt Gage to take him to Kingwall.

You mentioned that name with James. Do you know more? The guardianship was rejected and the boy was raised by Capt Gage and introduced to the sea. So who was Capt Gage and what was he to the family?? And was Kingwall the elder James Guppy who was a fighter in the French and Indian War?
