Interesting you should ask. Actually in Gertrurde Ballam's material, she lists a James living in Dover or Portsmouth around 1715. I don't think she could attach him to anyone else. The other question about a James and Joshua in Wolfeboro is that they both owned property there about the same time--but that was later in the late 1700's. You have probably seen the property maps but I can fax a copy to you if you don't have it. Apparently a man by the name of Gage sold the property to them. And originally, James went to sea with a Captain Gage. He was the person who raised him after thefather died and trained him in seafaring skills. More later..

Maurie,
I don't think I've seen the property maps. I'd be interested in received faxes of those and also of the 1972 John W. Guppy letter. My work fax number is 914/422-1462. Thanks. Judy

Joshua Guppy (1739-1806), NH

Maurie,
Do you know who raised Joshua after his father died? I had read about Capt. Gage raising James, but I haven't been able to find out where Joshua went. Judy

Maurie, Please fax to me at 914/422-1396 instead of the other number, and please make sure to indicate my name (this is an office fax at work). Today I mailed in the forms for Joshua's Rev War records. Will let you know what info I receive. Judy

I hope you still read the posts after 15 years. But I need to talk with you about documents from the Guppey family. It is important. Pat Fochs patfochs@att.net
