Eugene Gundelach
MARGARETVILLE — Eugene John Gundelach, 71, of Margaretville, died Jan. 21, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 6, 1927, in New Rochelle, the son of Emil Gundelach and Elizabeth Voltz. His first marriage was to Gloria Koepper. She died in 1982. He then married Uta Sobiray in 1987.
He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force from Jan. 21, 1946 until April 16, 1947.
He was the owner of Gundelach's Power and Bicycle Store in New Rochelle for more than 40 years, which was founded by his father and is run by his children today.
Mr. Gundelach retired in 1983 and in 1987 was able to fulfill his dream and move to the Catskills to be able to live in the mountains. While living in New Rochelle, he was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Eugene will always be remembered for his kindness, gentleness and acceptance of others.
He is survived by his wife, Uta Gundelach of Margaretville; his children, Kathy Dean and Eugene, Barry, Beth and Kimberly Gundelach; two brothers, Harold and Emil Gundelach; a daughter-in-law, Linda; son-in-law, Garry; and three grandchildren, Jeannine, Jaime and Justin.
He is also survived by his best friend, Bill Peterson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the George T. Davis Funeral Home, New Rochelle.
Burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery in New Rochelle.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
