My great grandfather was a stow-away on a cattle boat along with his brother ages 14 and 16 in the late 1800's. He was from Heidelburg, Germany. He was a Spanish-American war vet, married Fannie Lucas also from Heidelburg. He farmed in Nebraska, went to New Mexico, traded land for land in Seligman and Wheaton, Missouri. He had 4 children, Fred(my grandfather), Edward, Bill and Harry.

My grandfather William Gundel lived in Wheaton, Mo . My mother had an Uncle Fred. I remember hearing that the Gundels were from Heidleburg, and they had lived in Nebraska before moving to Missouri. I'm just starting my search. I would love to share information.

I think we are related. My mom was Bonnie Lou Gundel daughter of Fred and Ada Gundel. She had given me the names of my grandfathers brothers and I think one was William. I think another was Harry and there is another. I will look for my papers. He was from Nebraska, moved to Wheaton, Fairview, Aurora MO. Nice to meet you cousin. I will keep in touch. I am just starting the Gundel side. My grandmother told me that grandpa's father had come over on a ship with his brother from Heidelburg. His wife was Fannie Lucas also from that area. My mom remembers them and she said they spoke mostly German. Sandy

I asked my mom if she knew William Gundel, she said he was her uncle. She remembers his daughter Jean, she thought she had another sister who died. Is this your family? Do you still live in the Wheaton area? My mom is very excited about this. She is 69 years old, her mother just died a couple years ago. My grandfather died in the early 60's. Keep in touch, I think we are boht just starting this family, maybe we can guide each other "cousin" :) Sandy

I realize that this was about 3 years ago but I have some information that might aid in your searches. Frederick Gundel was my great-great grandfather, Harry Henry Gundel my great-grandfather, and his son Don Gundel was my grandfather. I have a copy of Harry Gundel's birth certificate and a little other information, too. I didn't realize that they are from Heidelberg. I have been there twice, not knowing that it is where the family is from. There was I think a bakery there that was called "Gundel" or "Gundel's". Maybe they are our relatives? It's interesting to meet new relatives through genealogy research. Do you have any furthur information on the family in Heidelberg?

Tammi, Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I too am searching for more information about the Germany connection. My mother told me that her grandfather, Frederick came from Heidelberg, Germany with his brother. They were separated from each other. My mother remembers her grandparents. She said they both spoke German. My grandfather was also named Frederick, he was Harry's brother. I have found a little information on the internet about the family. I will try to look in my files to see if I have any info you could use. I have found nothing about Fannie Lucas's family. I think?? they were married in Nebraska. Are they buried in Missouri?
