I am researching a Purnell Brittingham b. in Maryland, in Adams County, OH btw. 1809 and 1815. He had three wives and at least 8 children. A Roland Beavins Brittingham appears in the next county at about the same time and I believe that this Roland was indentured in Worcester Co., MD at approximately the same time. Roland's indenture indicates that he was a son of William. I have been told that Roland and Purnell may have been brothers.

Hi Cathy,

This Purnell I am looking for was born abt 1789 in Worcester Co, Maryland
He was the son of Elijah Britting b 1763 d 1798 and Elizabeth. He has siblings
Nathaniel, Elijah and Elizabeth. Leslie P. Dryden says: On Aug 23, 1803, Purnell
was apprenticed to Ben. Gunby to learn the trade of a farmer and miller Wor Orphans
Court Proc 1802/04: 207) Nothing further is known of this Purnell Brittingham.

I was told that he may have moved to Adams Co., Ohio with a wife named Mary Massey.
She sold her fathers interest to his estate and other items she inherited to her
brother in Worcester Co. and sometime between 1820/21 they moved to Ohio.

What I am not sure about is, is this my Purnell or is it another Purnell. There
were three Purnells in this time frame, one married 1807, not mine, and two in 1819 and
1821, either could be the one I am looking for. So I am currently trying to find out
which if either could be the one I am looking for. If you give me your email, I will
forward the email I received and you can see if it helps you out at all. My e mail ismtnwmn@digisys.net
