Hello!

My name is Marvin Allan Gumba. I'm 31, living in Norfolk, VA (USA). I was born in Olongapo, Philippines 1979 at Olongapo General Hospital. My mother is Irenia Gumba Brown and received her Brown surname when she married my stepfather Stephen J. Brown in 1981. Her Father is Venancio Gumba. He is still living in the Philippines with his son (my Uncle) and other relatives there.

Venancio had several children. Nelly Gumba Hall, Nene Gumba Carpenter, Inday Gumba, Irenia Gumba Brown, Jun Gumba, and I think 2 others I don't know right now.

I am on Facebook befriending as many Gumba's that I can find. I'm probably friends with 200 or so right now. It's too much work at the moment to find out how each one is related. It'll be a lifetime project for us to take on. As for now, I'm just presently gathering the Gumba's of the world as Facebook Friends.

Quick Thought:

From what my grandfather (Venacio) shared to his children (my aunts\uncles), the Gumba surname derived from "Gumban". During WWII, when the Japanese took over Philippines before the US came to rescue us, the Japanese supposedly were randomly killing families based on whatever criteria they felt at the time. One day, they decided to kill people with last names ending with the letter "n". Well, in order to survive, the Gumban's removed the "n" which became our surnames: Gumba.

This is just a story my mom (Irenia) told me, that her dad (Venancio) told her. Share your thoughts please.

Look me up on Facebook.

i'm jonat gumba from albay.i grew up in manila and my present location is alabang.my father, cecilio gumba, told me before that the gumba in albay came from leyte. i wish we can get info from every gumba from different places to give info/details of anything related to the ancestry.i think the best thing to do is to sign in to facebook and invite all with gumba middlename or surnames.maybe in time, we can come up with something to organize them into making the ultimate family tree. in my lifetime, i've known gumba from other places like baguio, leyte, cebu and even from general santos city(alhtough they spell their gumba as gomba)

My grandfather is Magno Gumba. I was told that the origin of Gumba is from migrant brothers. One settle in Cebu and one to Bicol. I am from Ligao, Albay where a seven of my uncles kept our surnames alive with lots of Gumbas. The Maliniza's in Naga are related to Gumba by mariage. The Gumbas in Ligazpi are aslo my relatives per grandpa. I was told that the Gumban and Saligumba are from the Gumba's source. I don't know. I think you know that we all came from one source. I hope this will help. Please let me know the result of your effort. You are doing a good job. Let me know how I can help you. I have sister, brother and cousins in CA.

i am the eldest son of Corazon Vallejo Gumba, who is from Baybay, Leyte, Philippines. She is the only survivor of Heliria(aka eli) Gumba. Her only other sibling is Fremitivio Gumba, while young moved (stowaway) to Guam. My mother recalls a picture he had sent to her mother that had two boys in it. My mother married a GI and now we live in Erie,Pennsylvania in the USA. My mother will be going back the Philippines this year. For the first time in over 30 years. She would like to know anything about her mothers brother and what became of him and his family!
As far as I knoe the Gumba's come from the Philippine islands specifically in Sorsogon, the Bicol region.
I am tracing my family roots and right now, am in the process of completing my own family tree. I come from the Gumba family
who migrated from Bicol to the island of Cebu, Philippines. I would like to know more about the Gumba's scattered all over the world.
