i'm jonat gumba from albay.i grew up in manila and my present location is alabang.my father, cecilio gumba, told me before that the gumba in albay came from leyte. i wish we can get info from every gumba from different places to give info/details of anything related to the ancestry.i think the best thing to do is to sign in to facebook and invite all with gumba middlename or surnames.maybe in time, we can come up with something to organize them into making the ultimate family tree. in my lifetime, i've known gumba from other places like baguio, leyte, cebu and even from general santos city(alhtough they spell their gumba as gomba)

Surnames: Gumba, Gumban
Hello!

My name is Marvin Allan Gumba. I'm 31, living in Norfolk, VA (USA). I was born in Olongapo, Philippines 1979 at Olongapo General Hospital. My mother is Irenia Gumba Brown and received her Brown surname when she married my stepfather Stephen J. Brown in 1981. Her Father is Venancio Gumba. He is still living in the Philippines with his son (my Uncle) and other relatives there.

Venancio had several children. Nelly Gumba Hall, Nene Gumba Carpenter, Inday Gumba, Irenia Gumba Brown, Jun Gumba, and I think 2 others I don't know right now.

I am on Facebook befriending as many Gumba's that I can find. I'm probably friends with 200 or so right now. It's too much work at the moment to find out how each one is related. It'll be a lifetime project for us to take on. As for now, I'm just presently gathering the Gumba's of the world as Facebook Friends.

Quick Thought:

From what my grandfather (Venacio) shared to his children (my aunts\uncles), the Gumba surname derived from "Gumban". During WWII, when the Japanese took over Philippines before the US came to rescue us, the Japanese supposedly were randomly killing families based on whatever criteria they felt at the time. One day, they decided to kill people with last names ending with the letter "n". Well, in order to survive, the Gumban's removed the "n" which became our surnames: Gumba.

This is just a story my mom (Irenia) told me, that her dad (Venancio) told her. Share your thoughts please.

Look me up on Facebook.
