Was this Anna Guman by chance a sister of John William Guman, or the mother of Ruth Pastor?

I am William F. Guman (1956). My father was William J. Guman (1929-1999), and his father was John William Guman (1892-1973).

maybe a connection? My father was William J. Guman (1929-1999). His father was John William Guman (1892-1973). His father was Andrew Guman (Wilkes-Barre, PA, birthdate unknown, but believed to be around 1850). My grandfather had at least one sister I know of, Anna Guman, who had at least one daughter I know of (Ruth Pastor, still living).

William,

Sorry for the delay in replying; I think I found out something interesting on Ellis Island website today. I believe there are two Ellis Island entries which are related to my own Guman Line (John Guman and Anna Fedorko Guman of Olyphant; my great-great grandparents). The first is a brother of John Guman (listed as living in Olyphant); named Andras Guman, 44 yrs old arrival June 18 1907 on the Fredrich der Grosse ship. Another is a niece of John Guman of Olyphant, named Anna Guman (actually it is the same arrival date so they travelled together). Both are listed as Slovaks from Hungary, the town name lookes like Hernadsztistran.

Also in looking at the St Cyrils (Olyphant) Jubilee yearbook from 1988, there are two original contributors to the church (circa 1890)- Ivan Guman and Joseph Guman; I believe Ivan may be the old country name for "John" and believe this is probably my g-g-grandfather.

For further information John (1863-1937) and Anna's (1864- 1923) children were Anna (Lazar), Mary (Petronchak), Elizabeth (Borrick), Veronica (Yousko), Helen (Wargo), and Michael. Anna (my g-grandmother) is not linked to the names you mention.

When I wrote to St Cyrils, I actually received some information about a different Anna Guman (than my great grandmother, the daughter of John). I assume the other Anna is related to my line somehow, but unknown how. The details are "Anna Guman, daughter of Andrew, (from) Miklas, distr. Vegar, and Anna, daughter of Michael Skiba born in Olyphant PA on 12 March 1911. Godparents Joseph Skiba and Maria Leszco".

Wilkes Barre isn't terribly far, so if you think this could possible link to your Guman line somehow, it may be something to look into!

Please do not hesitate to get back in touch - best wishes

GUMAN--Ruthenian(Austro-Hungary)

have been following with interest the GUMAN information. My grandmothers family was from Austro-Hungary (they called it AUSTRIA) and today their villages are in Slovak Republic. Her mother was a Misslinsky (Mislensky) born in what was then called in Hungarian Szadek (Sadek in German spelling) and then later in Slovak Potsadek now part of the village of Stara Lubovna, near the Polish Border. This is a Ruthenian village (Rusinsky) in great part with many Greek (aka Ruthenian, Uniat, Byzantine) Catholics, whose rite is Orthodox but under the Vatican, due to the history of the Habsburg dynasty etc.
Some have written that the documents say Hungary: technically that area of Slovakia was at that time under the Hungarian Crown and the Austrian Imperial Crown. If this helps anybody I will be happy to share what I have. I would be interested to speak to any Guman or other person from that area esp if they have information about the minority Ruthenian population.
Dakuju-ti (Thanks in Ruthenian)
Dakujem (Thanks in Slovak)
JFP

William,

We're cousins! Anna is my grandmother. She was married to Julius Pastor. Ruth Pastor is my aunt.
