I am a professional genealogist. I have also researched all the Gums families in America for my own use. I have Carol's husband's line back to Posen, Prussia and my own back to Posen, Prussia. Several lines came from Russia, but from Posen, Prussia before that. The valid spellings are GUMS, GUEMS, GUMMS, GUMZ, and several others, but they all end in S or Z. The name is Slavic in origin. There is also a British and Spanish similarity. Who are your parents and grandparents? I can probably link you into one of my databases of GUMS in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois or Minnesota.

My ancestors in Pommern appear to have spelled the name GUMZ. Then when they were living in Wisconsin in the later quarter of the 18th century, for some of the family, the name was spelled or mispelled GUMPS. My gggrandfather was Carl GUMZ from the Gross Tychow area of Belgard, and he emigrated with his family in 1875. I would appreciate it if you would send me the link to your data base for Wisconsin GUMS. Thanks.

Hello,
If you sent an attachment with the Gums family GEDCOMs, I did not receive it through the message board. Please try again using my direct e-mail of klange@hickorytech.net. Thanks.

I am researching my husband's family who lived in White River, Muskegon, Michigan. His grandmother was Bertha Gumms whose parents were August Gumms and Ottilie Kilinski. This family came to America about 1869. I have found a number of Gumms families in this area, but am unable to connect them. Can you help?
