I am looking for any information on Christian Gulbin, b. Werben, Prussia, 1824.
He married Anna Liesch and they immigrated to Australia in 1853. Any information ?

Heidi,
I am a descendant of Christian Gulbin.
I have visited Christian's grave which is in Murtoa, Victoria, Australia. Quite a number of Lutherans came to Australia from Prussia around this time and settled around the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Christian and Anna also landed in South Australia but a few families decided to move on to Victoria and landed in Portland, Victoria. They then moved onto Hamilton and continued further north until they finally settled in Murtoa. From what I can tell Christian and Anna had 6 chldren (Lousie, Johanna, Wilhelm, Christian, Frederick and Bertha).
Please feel free to contact me by email at gulbin@netc.net.au

Dear Heidi

Christian and Anna GULBIN are my great-great grandparents. They were apparently a Wendish couple, of Slavic rather than mainstream German origin. They lived in small villages near Cottbus, then Prussia, prior to emigrating to Australia. Two children died in Prussia and a further two died en route to Australia.
I have seen Anna's surname spelled in a number of ways, but the only document I've seen which originated in Germany, the emigration papers, record her as LESKA. I've been researching the GULBIN family in Australia for a little while now, and am about to start trying to trace any relatives still living in Germany.
I would be happy for you to contact me at megsouter@optusnet.com.au if you would like any further information.

Margery (Meg) Souter.

Dear Meg,
I guess we are related, my Grandmother was Sophie Gulbin ( daughter of Wilhelm ). I was interested to read your messages , have you been able to find any further information ?.
My Grandmother was born in Murtoa (Vic),later moved to Hamilton where she married and raised 6
children, four of whom are still alive and well.Seventeen grandchildren located Australia wide, plus numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
I have visited the Lutheran Archives in Adelaide and was able to retrieve some basic information re local records but nothing prior to emigration.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Kind Regards,
Glenda Allen.

Do you have any information regarding Christian, one of Anna and Christians' sons..
To my knowledge, if its the right family line, he married a woman by the name of Beryl (unknown surname) for which they lived in Murtoa until they had there second daughter, Pamela being the oldest and Jenny the youngest where they moved to Auburn, then Ferntree Gully where Christian died and Beryl relocated to St Kilda.
