Surnames: Gulash Benetski Blasko Rusnak Magyar Belusko Yavorska
We are attempting to find the parents and any information available about my great grandfather Michael Gulash and his family. Here are the only clues I have to go on.

Michael Gulash (Michal Gulas) was born in Clembark, Austria-Hungary on January 6, 1866 (from his Funeral Notice) and immigrated to this country around 1903 from Bartza or Bartsa Austria-Hungary (could this be Barca in today's Slovak Republic?) Michael married Elizabeth Benetski/Benetskie. They had the following children:
1 Michael Gulash 1866 - 1931

.. +Elizabeth Benetski 1868 - 1936

...... 2 John J. Gulash, Sr. 1889 - 1960

.......... +Mary Blasko 1894 - 1980 *

...... 2 Joseph Gulash 1894 -

.......... +Kejdy "Katherine" Yavorska 1898 - ** (she immigrated ca. 1913)

...... 2 Anna Gulash 1898 - 1977

.......... + Michael Rusnak 1890 - 1918

...... *2nd Husband of Anna Gulash:

.......... + Louis Magyar 1888 - 1938

...... *3rd Husband of Anna Gulash:

.......... +George Kroll

...... 2 Paul Gulash 1901 - 1987 (born in Dobzna, Hungary)

.......... +Anna Belusko 1909 -

...... 2 Helen Gulash 1903 - (first child born in America)

.......... +Pete Forneris 1897 -

...... 2 Mary Gulash 1909 -

.......... +Bernard Blua 1904 -

All the children were born in the "old country" except Helen and Mary. Anna was my loving grandmother. She, and all her siblings, spoke "Slavish" or Slovak and not Hungarian. We have a family portrait (drawing done in pastel?) done of great grandmother Elizabeth Benetski Gulash and her first four children that I think was done in Budapest shortly before they immigrated.

* Andrew Blasko was born August 27, 1865 in Kassa, Austria-Hungary. He married Mary Bogus who was born April 04, 1871 in Mishla, Austria-Hungary. These are Aunt Mary Blasko Gulash's parents. Andrew immigrated much earlier but there may have been a family connection to the Gulash's in the "old country".

** Kejdy "Katherine" Yavorska immigrated to this country ca. 1913 and married Joe Gulash. No evidence of a connection back there.

I can't find any trace of a place called Clembark (Michael Gulash's birthplace) in the Austro-Hungarian Empire or anywhere else. He was said to have been a groomsman for some wealthy people's horses in the "old county". It's not much to go on but any if any of this looks at all familiar please contact me at jmagyar2@comcast.net

Thanks,

Your Clembark was Klembergh, Klemark, Klemberg, Klemberk, Kelember, Klembarok which is now Klenov, Saris region (Saros megye) Slovak Republic.
Your Mishla is "american" spelling of Mysla and there is a Vysna Mysla and Nizna Mysla.

No village named Dobzna unless it might be Dobsina. Not sure.
Kassa , Abauj megye is now Kosice, Abov region, Slovak Republic.

When I clicked the link to the map I expected to see where the town Klenov, Slovakia was located.
Is Klenov anywhere near Lubotin, Slovakia?
Please instruct us how to use the map?

Isabel

http://mapy.atlas.sk in the window type a Klenov, click on Vyhladaj, click on Klenov, click on Velikost mapy to enlarge the map. You can manuever the map by clicking arrows on the sides of the map.
The village of Lubotin is East of Stara Lubovna and closer to Poland's border. The village of Klenov is Souht-West of town of Presov.
Another good locator: www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm

Did you mention any American cities? I remember the name Gulash from Joliet, Ill. My Hrusovsky ancestors came from Klenov and Stitnik to Joliet.
