Virginia  (View posts) Posted: 17 Mar 2001 8:41PM GMT
Hi
I was wondering if you could help me with this Marriages Place: M F GUINN,20 Sallie STARKEY,17, md: 19 Dec 1897, Sacred Heart/Newton C.
This is from Chickasaw Nation Marriages, Ardmore Courthouse.
Can not find Newton on the Oklahoma map. But
there is a Newton Co., Arkansas.
Thank You
Virginia

Guinn Starkey families

Hi, M F Guinn should be W F Guinn, for William Franklin Guinn. Could just be a missprint. The other name and date is right, because my grandmother Annie May Guinn Roggers was b. Sep. 5, 1898. I don't know about Newton in OK., but will try to find where it was, if it ever was there. Ardmore is about 4 hr. from here, so maybe one day when I get a chance I could go there and look up these records.

Thanks,David

This is not my line of Guinns but I may be able to help with the locations listed on the marriage record. According to OKLAHOMA PLACE NAMES by George H. Shirk: Newton was located in northern Pontotoc County, 7 miles northeast of Ada. Post office est. April 17, 1894, and name changed to Francis, June 5, 1902. Sacred Heart Mission was in southeastern Pottawatomie County, 6 miles east of Asher. Post office est. January 30, 1879; name changed to Sacred Heart, May 24, 1888, and discontinued August 31, 1954. The post office for Sacred Heart Mission, est. in 1876 by Father Isidore Robot as a major Catholic missionary effort in western Indian Territory.

Guinns in OK

Chuck Guinn  (View posts) Posted: 6 May 2001 5:41AM GMT
David: As you can tell I don't keep up with
this regularly. I should because it really
is fun.

I am reasonably sure that we are cousins.
It looks like my grandfather, Eli A. Guinn
was a brother to William Franklin Guinn. My
Dad's family lived in Konawa for a while. In
fact I think that my Aunt Alma is buried
there. You mentioned that you live about
four hours from Ardmore. I still have a
whole hat full of relatives in Ada. I now
live in central Florida.

My e-mail address is cguinn2@bellsouth.net.
Drop me a line sometime.

Regards,
Chuck

Kathy I have written you before about Gwin;s. I have changed E-mail address and I don;t remeber what information I gave you. I am a Gwin from Perry Co./Breathitt Co. Susan died the month that my mother died. I have most of the Gwin's up to 1910 and after that I got lost. Drew was my G-grandfather. Susan was related to my mother who was a Watts. I am now getting back into genealogy. Although we spell his name as Drew it was Drury. I use Drew. I think you get Guinn from the headstone. I think it was in errorand should be Gwiin. Jennie

Jennie,

I have the Guinns back to William's father James. I have been told that the spelling was changed by the way it was written and people spelled it the way it looked. When some wrote g w i n n , it looked like guinn. So you decide. My aunt spelled her name guinn until she went to college and they spelled it the other way. That is what I have been told. You can email me directly if you want. mullins_wright@excite.com is my email.

Thanks for the reply
Kathy

I think I could add my Guinn family to what you have and that would update part of it. Let me know.

It is at James father of Wm born abt 1800. I can not find for certain that Wm's father was James. I have located one that might be the our James. However he was married 8 years before the first child was born, which did not happen often. This James also seem to be from the wrong Co. in Va.
I got my name James from a paper in Ark. How did you located that Wm's father was a James? I need to get with you on family as my mother Martha Watts Gwin knew your mother Sylvania.
