Hi
Louis Chrysostom GUICHARD had 2 sons in London, Laurence born 1752 and Louis born 1755. We are related to Laurence Guichard through his son Henry. I would love to hear from anyone with information on this person or a family tree.
I believe Louis came to England around 1748 from either France or Belgium. He was a goldsmith. I am curious to find out when and where he was born and the cause of his apparent death in 1755, when his son Louis was only born on 23rd December 1754. Any information on Louis' wife Marie (Lequeu?)would be appreciated.

Hi Christine,
Bit of a while since your post, but I'm new to all this...
I'm also related to Laurence through Henry - his daughter Emma was my G-G-Grandmother. She married my GGGF Henry Broad in 1856, and their 4th child, Charles was my GGF..
To which of Henry's children are you related?
Afraid I'm behind you in researching earlier relatives - I've only just found Louis Chrysostom. Did you find out any more about him?
Kind regards,
David Broad

Hi David
I am researching the Broad/Guichard family tree for my son and daughter. Their father, my ex-husband was the son of Henrietta Louise Broad (1919-1993), she was the daughter of Stanley Scott Broad (1895-1976). They are the descendants of Emma and Henry Broad's son Henry John Broad.
Henrietta(Hetty) told me that there was a French and Spanish/Portuguese connection in the family. So far I have only found the French connection through Henry Guichard (1803-1870). I do not know why he left the family to go to the Clerkenwell Workhouse in approx 1860. He may have been in bad health or had financial problems. However he lived there until his death in 1870.
I still do not have any further info on Louis Guichard.
Good luck with your research
Christine

Hi Christine,

Thanks for getting back to me. My grandfather Charles Henry (1883-1964) wrote a rambling memoir/family history and mentions that Henry John married Marian Amelia Woods, who was a well-heeled lady from Chelsea. She inherited £1000, which is why they moved from Clerkenwell to Teddington. I recently noticed in the 1911 census that they had moved back to Islngton (Belitha Villa, which is lovely) by then. Not that far from my wife and I.

Don't know about Henry Guichard's later years, but it is curious, given that he had 12 kids who could have supported him. I have some quite fun anecdotal stuff about the Guichard sisters (Henry's girls) from my GF. If you're interested I could scan and email.

I haven't heard about or come across any Spanish/Portugese ancestors. Could that have been through Louisa Slatter or Marian Amelia Woods?

Good luch with your research.

Kind regards,
David

Hi David
Thank you for your reply.
I would be grateful for any information from your grandfather.
I have discovered that 7 of Henry Guichards children died in infancy or childhood. The only death certificate I have seen gives his daughter Ann's death in 1860 as exhaustian from burns. She was 10 years old. It's possible that they might have had a house fire which may explain him going to the workhouse or it may just be an accident.
Kind Regards
Christine
