I am researching my Guibert family who were originally from Elkhart Co., Indiana and then Grand Rapids, Michigan area starting with (John) George Guibert who married Sarah Varner in St. Joseph Co. Michigan. They had 3 children:

Frank Peter Guibert b. 1856, Saint Joseph Co., IN
m. 1)Harriet Connor b. abt 1857
m. 2)Amelia Mathilda Harter b. abt 1865
m. 3)Rosa Childs b. ?

Daniel Martin Guibert b. 1858, Baugo, Elkhart Co., IN
m. Emily

Pearlie Liveria Guibert b. 1861, Baugo, Elkhart Co., IN
m. Edwin Cornelius McRobert b. 1859

The first child, Frank, died in Gig Harbor, Pierce Co., WA and had 6 children by his first 2 marriages; Catherine L., Alvin J., Fred D., George, Julia, and Martin M.

Daniel died in Pinellas Co., Florida.

Pearlie L. remained in Grand Rapids with Edwin and had 2 children, Edwin H. and Grace E. McRobert.

(John) George Guibert was born about 1826 and emigrated from France around 1848. He died during the Civil War in 1863. I have run into many brick walls trying to locate who his parents were in France and also the parents of his wife, (Sarah A. Varner).

If any of this family looks familiar, I would be hear from you and compare notes.

Hello,

My last name is Guibert. But I do not see your Georges in my genealogy which you can view here:

Have you looked on Geneanet already?
How did it go from Geroge to John (Jean in french)?

Hi Michel,
Thank you for replying. My 3rd great-grandfather, John George Guibert was born in France according to his C.W .Military records but I can't find any evidence of where in France. His marriage record, Civil War and other records list him with this name. He mostly went by George.

Unfortunately I've not been able to trace his roots in France and I'm not really experienced enough to do this research yet. I believe he immigrated to the US in the late 1840's and I've found no records of his Guibert family with him since his immigration.

I have checked your Geneanet website and I see you done extensive research on the Guibert's but I don't see where George might fit in. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi TJ,

I guess the best would be to find him in lists of passengers, but I do not know of any easy way to do that.
I found this one on Geneanet:

This could be his father. The combination of Jean-Georges seems common in the Alsace region and especially in the Bas-Rhin department.
You can write me directly at mguibert@aol.com if you wish.
