To all the people with the surname Guhlke out there, My maiden name was Guhlke and I live in Boston, Linconlshire, U.K. I thought that my family were the last of the line, never knew that there were more. I would like to know exactly where the name originated from, and if anyone would like to contact me, ( I don't bite) it would be great to here from you.
I do know that my dad was born in East Ham London and we used to live in West London before moving to Lincolnshire, so infact we are Londoners. I did not know my Dads parents as they died when he was about 13yrs
My dads name is Roy Henry Guhlke born 25th Sept, 1930
for any people doing family trees

Hope to hear from someone, until then bye for now

Susan Woods (nee Guhlke)

Dear Mrs Taylor

Thank-you for your reply to my message, My late grandfather's name was also Albert, and my late grandmothers name was Nancy. My father (to whom I have very little contact with), could only remember them up until the age of thirteen as Nancy died in 1942 and Albert died in 1943 and they lived in Forrest Gate, London. My father was then brought up by his three sisters who's names are Edna, Renee and Heather, unfortunately I have no contact with them but their ages range from mid eighties to late seventies, my dad is 73 in September, he is aware that I am trying to find other Guhlkes and he would not mind me contacting him on this.
I will let him know about your grandfather as he has the same christian name.

Maybe we could talk some more sometime, again thank-you for replying to my query.

Sue Woods (Guhlke)

p.s I was born on July 14th 1956, Hillingdon, Middlesex (now known as West London)

Surnames: Guhlke Grandjot Dommen
Hi there - just browsing and found this website. My great grandmother's maiden name was Guhlke. Her first name was Bertha and she had a sister called Matilde. Bertha married a Carl Grandjot and lived in Southwark, SE London. Matilde married Anton Dommen and moved to Brighton. They were German and came to England around 1886. They were all in the tailoring business. I'd be interested in any more information on them as they are proving elusive! Two different people have told me that the name Guhlke is of Turkish origin.
