This is what I know from my research, but I don't know if it relates to your relatives. There was a phone book listing from 1890 or 18921, I think for Lafayette, IN. The phone book listing showed William and Mary Guhl (Mouse was Mary's maiden name), with children John, Julia and Henry Guhl. It turns out Henry was actually Harry F. Guhl who married by great great grandmother, Alice Miller. Harry and Alice had children Alice, Henry, and William J. Guhl. In my Guhl research I ran across a Julius and Fredericka Guhl who came from Germany They had children Julius, Helmuth, and Fred. They all lived in southern Indiana and I believe Julius, Helmuth and Fred were born there but I'm not sure. I think they may have been cousins to William and Mary - or some other relation but I don't believe they were direct family. From what my dad had told me, the Guhl's were a large family with cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. I believe William and Mary came over in the 1850's from Germany, although one census record shows Mary as coming from France. The 1850's are also consistent with what my great grandmother had said. I have pictures somewhere of a Guhl family reunion - but there are no names other than Henry, Harry, and William. Let me know if any of this was useful to you. Good luck in your search!

Sara,
Where did your mother grow up? Or where did Fred & Winifred live? If they lived in MO., I think these might be people in my family...

My father was Cecil Guhl and had sisters Esther, Grace and Goldie. They lived in Toledo, Ohio, I believe my father lived for a time in Arkansas or Kansas. My dad's brothers were Hank, Fred and William. Any connections?

Julius and Frederica Guhl also had another son name Carl who was born in Huntington, Indiana in 1874. Julius and Frederica were both born in Meclenburg, Germany and died and buried in Huntington, Indiana.
