Hello Keith,
I take it you do not have a village for your Frank. First I would suggest try posting "all" known data, of Frank in Bavaria. Census record info imigration ect. This might help someone help you better. Also I suggest getting on the Bavarian / Bayern Mailing Lists here on rootsweb. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/DEU/

Next:
The phone book only show about 3 Guggenberg's
http://www.dastelefonbuch.de/

Guggenberg A. (Angelika) v. Rathausstr. 15A 22941 Bargteheide
Guggenberg Clemens von Hitzestr. 15 81927 München
Guggenberg E. von Bauernfeindstr. 5A 80939 München

Unfortunatly the phone book also shows 679 listings for Guggenberger
so this will take time to narrow down your search. To do this first of all you will need to select only the Bayern (Zip) Postal codes from this list.

Here is a way to manually seperate the zipcodes between the States in Germany

http://www.rootsweb.com/~deurhepf/

63701-63774 Bayern
63777-63939 Bayern
74594 Bayern
80001-87491 Bayern
87493-87561 Bayern
87567-87569 Bayern
87571-87789 Bayern
88101-88146 Bayern
88149-88179 Bayern
89201-89449 Bayern
90001-96489 Bayern
97001-97859 Bayern
97888-97892 Bayern
97901-97909 Bayern

Once you have narrowed down the villages you will probbaly have only a few area where the name is concentrated. One of these villages could likley be the village your family was from. So then You can either contact the village, the church or try to find other reseachers who may not be related but are searching the same village.
Bayern is not an easy area to search as the LDS FHC does not have information on many of the villages in Bayern. Sometimes people need to Hire a researcher in the area they are searching.
However if you do find that your family was catholic and was in the Bistrum of Wurzburg, The church Archivest will Look up your information in your village, for a nominal fee.

It would seem that the families were from the area know as Niederbayern south of Regensburg or in the area of Mittelfranken, Bayern near Wuerzburg

The LDS ( http://www.familysearch.org ) list several hundred Guggenberger (549).
but only 1 FRANK.

FRANZ XAVER GUGGENBERGER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 21 JUN 1909 Oberellenbach Mallersdorf, Niederbayern, Bayern

Some times naming patterns are common in the same family, but it doesn't mean that other families didn't use the same names.

I hope this helps somewhat and hope you post back to the board to inform us what you have found in your search.
Best regards
Kurt
