My grandmother on mother's side was Gugel, Cecilia. I'm afraid I'm not of much help -- my great-grandfather, the father of my grandmother, Constantine, was from Kingdom of Poland, born 1865, died 1937. I do know that there were Gugels in Switzerland in the 1600s -- check your nreast Church of Latter Day Saints library and genealogical records. And in Russia, Gugels appeared in the 1700s. My great-great-grandfather, Moses Gugel, was also from Poland. So the family connection must go VERY far back.

My great grandfather, Johann Gugel, was born in Germany in 1802 and came to Rochester, New York in the late 1840's. He came with 5 children(no record of wife accompanying him). Children were: Martin, John George, Barbara, Mary and Christopher. Martin's marriage certificate stated that his mother was Magdalena Blininger from Herzogenaurach, near Nurnberg. Any connection with your Johann Gugel?

I don't think they are the same. The Johanne I am looking for was born 21 Sep 1802 and died 10 Nov 1869. He was married to Elizabeth Satzinger and helped to establish the town of Frankenmuth, MI. Is that any help or sound familiar?

Gugel's from Baden, Germany
Ok. My great great grandfather Christian Gugel was born in May 28, 1838 in Ehregan, State of Baden, Germany. He was 18 when he came here from Germany. 37 day trip to landed them in New York with his family. His father, Jacob, took ill, died, and is buried on Staten Island. The family continued they're trip to Indiana to meet a brother. The spelling of the name Gugel has changed through out the years from: GUGAL to GUGEL, to GUGLE. Christian married in 1860 to Katrina (Catherine) Wartz. Her name has also been changed through otu the years from: WARTZ to WERTS to WERTZ. Christian enlisted in the 73rd Indiana Infantry, Company G during the War Between The States. After the war, he went back to Indiana for about four more years and in 1869 they moved to Maple Hill, about 40 miles from Grand Rapids Michigan. They later settled in LeRoy Township. He had nine children. My relation to him is from one of his daughters Lizzie Gugle. She married James Wilcox. They're daughter Kate Wilcox married Wendell Miller. They're first son Marvin Miler Sr. is my great grandfather.
