I don't have info on Gugats before they immagrated. Charles Gugat immigrated from Germany in 1888 & became a citizen in 1894. He & his brother Frederick moved from New York & settled in Washington State.
Other siblings were:
Martha
Emma; mar. Billie Coyle 1907 d.1950
Marie
Morth
Helene.
Charles homesteaded on Bonaparte Creek, mar. Hattie Harlen
Children: George Frederick Gugat b.1912 (my husbands g'pa)
Carl B Gugat b.1907
Claud H Gugat b.1910
Are these your Gugats? Would like to share info. My email: jfluaitte@gmail.com

Interesting.
It isn't as if Gugat is a very common name.
I have my GGM Berta Gugat 1878-1953.
I have no info on any siblings or her parents.
Do you know where in Germany Charles had lived before coming?
I imagine it is connected, but everything I have is in Europe and everything you have is here in the states.
Maybe we can make it work someday.
Thank you.
Eric

I have Charles Gugat being born in Prussia Germany @ 1874. His dad ? born in E. Cruiga Germany, his mom ? born in E. Prussia Germany. Does is connect with what you have?

There is a book, about the early settlers in the Okanogan area of Wa state. I got the names of his siblings from that book because alot of them settled there too. His brother Fred & him started the first post office in Old Wauconda. Fred eventually moved to Ca. My husband's g'ma & her sister married 2 of Charles sons & lived at the old homestead, north end of Bonapart Lake. I talked to them alot about it. In 2007, we took a camping trip to Lake Bonapart, found the old cemetery where Charles & several of his family are buried.

i'll check with my mom, but we really don't know much else. We have our Family Book that the Nazi's made everyone have (Jewish or not) but it mostly on the Paternal side that they cared about your heritage.
This is all I have on my GGM:

1878 5 Feb
Irglacken, Ost Preussen (East Prussia) now part of Russia.

Thanks. I did't the Nazis were making people keep track of the lineage. But, then, they were concerned about "pure" blood, weren't they. Thanks for the history lessons.

My mom is in her 70's. She grew up in Berlin, Germany (1930's to 1960's). The Family Book had to be kept by everyone. What was interesting is that they went back TWO generations on your fathers side, but on your mothers side, they only went back one generation. There is stuff in that book that we would never have known, so it has been helpful, despite how evil it looks.
Even as white Lutherans, my mom's family was required to have the book. Of course there was only one book per family. So if you were stopped on the street because you looked suspicious, the police/Nazi's would go with you to your home and you would have to produce the book with the proper heritage listed!!

I've talked to my mom. She can't provide any additional information. She said her grandmother was wonderful and did everything for them but she knows nothing about her family.

Sorry. stay in touch. maybe one day we can make the connection!!
