Hi Jackie

Nice to hear from you but I don't know if we can meet as we are in Lanzarote 24/6 to 8/7 and we get back to Cornwall about 6-7pm on the 8th. Have you got a mobile so can ring when back to see if there is a chance. If you leave on the 9th you will pass very close to where we live so maybe you could make a short detour on your way back ( assuming you're driving)My email is mikeguffick@hotmail.com our phone is 01209 214668.Address is 2 Ambrose Court, Mount Ambrose, Redruth, TR15 1QX. Did you know the late Bill Guffick (my uncle) who died a couple of years ago and used to be involved with York RU club. HIs sister Bunty (Mary)are W A Guffs children by his second marriage to Annie & Bunty lives in Dringhouses & Bills wife Susan lives in Huntington.I have 4 female cousins all living in York. I am now going to check whether I have your email.

Kind regards for now

Mike and Wife Sally

Surnames: Guffick
Hi Mike, My name is Ann Guffick. I have an older brother Robert, (who has two children Stephen and Christine) and a younger sister, Joyce. Our parents were Pamela and John from York. John was brother of Charlie, Alf, Alec, Frank and I think Frank was their dad my grandfather. And I knew my Auntie Lena and knew of Mabel who emigrated to Australia!

My dad John was in the Army and was posted to Egypt before I was born. He became a butcher for Thrift stores in York and then we moved to Warminster to be near his brother Alf (who married Aileen and had a daughter Christine). He ran the cafe next to Woolworths and I loved it there - I was only 5 at the time.
I could write a lot more but this is a start anyway.

Let me know if this is of interest to you.
Regards, Ann

Hi Ann,

Everything to do with Gufficks is of interest to me the only thing is I only look into it occasionally and thus don't get very far. Can you see anything on this site from Jacky Hattam?. If so she might be of greater help to you than I can and names she mentions seem to tie us all together somehow. I had hoped to meet her when she was here in Cornwall but that never came off. I can't believe we are not related somewhere along the line as our name is quite unique. My Grandad was William Atterbury Guffick who lived in Fulford and worked at York Post office. He married twice and my dad Reginald and brother George and sis Gladys were all from that marriage. When he re-married (to Annie) they had two further children, William (deceased & Mary who is 90 and still alive and kicking in Dringhouses. We seem to originate from Pickering/Thornton area.

Check out Norman Guffick if you can as he started a website
which I cannot find anymore but that went back to Pickering and he reckoned we were distant cousins allthough his branch went to Hartlepool whereas mine went York.

If you find anything please let me know and if you like you can e-mail me direct on mikeguffick@hotmail.com or I am on facebook (don't use it much but look everyday).

Have a happy new year and keep searching

Kind regards Mike & Sally Guffick
