I am searching for information on the Guckenberger Family from Tphofen, Germany. I have traced my family back to Andrew Guckenberger, he had 9 children, John, George, William, Maria, August, Charles, Anna, Henrick, and Michael.
Most of the children came to America and lived n New York or Northern New Jersey.

Hello Vams,
Interesting, however I cannot find the village of Tphofen, Germany. Is this possibly a misspelling of the village name? You never mentioned any years? Some villages no longer exist after the thirty year war, (1500's). Your information suggests that this familly was in America in more recent times. I am guessing the 1800's?
Were did you find this documentation? The closest villages I can find to such a spelling of the name Tphofen are:

Thalhofen, Bayern, Deutschland
Töpen, Bayern, Deutschland
Tronetshofen, Bayern, Deutschland
Töpen (Verwaltungsgebiet), Hof, Bayern, Deutschland

I suggest the name of the village is probably Iphofen. www.iphofen.de/

"Iphofen (Verwaltungsgebiet), Kitzingen, Bayern, Deutschland (Germany)"

The village of Iphofen is in the State of Bayern. Near Wuerzburg / Würzburg (16.9 miles WNW). Postal code 97346 "Once part of Franconia"

If you look at the "Surname Guckenburger" map I have included in a previous post, You will notice a densly populated "Guckenburger" area in Bayern (Red or Dark purple) Iphofen is located in this area.
49°41' 10°17' which is 237.7 miles SW of Berlin
Additionaly see map for Iphofen.

I think we may assume that many of the families in this area are related including "my" Guckenbergers that are just accross the Baden border today. I hope you have read my other postings.
As you see on the www.iphofen.de/ link above there are at least four books for sale on the history of the village.
In there are at least 8 Guckenbergers still living in the village:
http://www.dastelefonbuch.de/
They are most likley your relatives! Including what I believe is a Guckenberger Resturaunt / Vineyard http://www.restaurant-kritik.de/79283/
or http://www.guckenberger.iphofen.de/
"The Guckenberger's of Iphofen are known for there Franconian Wines"
Certainly as I believe our families are related, I would like to know more about your line. Maybe one day we can connect them.

Do you have any other data?
Best regards
Kurt

Perhaps you are right and the spelling is Iphofen.
I orginally found the spelling on a marriage certificate, later a passenger manifest and recently on a Germany document that my Great grandfather Michael Guckenberger (youngest son of Andrew) brought over with him.

But I have not been able to track my line of Guckenbergers beyond thier boat ride to America, this might be why.

Andrew's children came to America between 1893 - John Guckenberger, lived in New Jersey and 1912 - Michael Guckenberger (my great grandfather) lived in Bronx New York.

Micheal married in 1923 to Augusta Boscheinen ( this family I can not find anything on except some NY census records)

Thank you for all your wonderful information. I will go over it all and see if I can come up with other information or questions to help us connect our families.

Hello Vams,
As far as I can tell Tphofen does not exsist, only in transcribed documents were as the "I" looks like a "T".
There are 59 hits for Boscheinen in the German phone book, I sent you the Link already. Additionally I have included a map of the Boscheinen found in Germany, unfortunatley the are scattered in Germany, but mostly in West Germany.

I just found this interesting thread. My name is C. Guckenberger, I live in Erlangen, Germany, and have direct ancestors from Seintsheim/Iphofen.
My father is Bruno, his father is Anton and Anton's brothers are Karl and Max and sisters Agnes and Elsa Guckenberer.
Maybe this is the information vams was looking for? My father Bruno has been contacted many years ago by a man who was looking for his origins in Germany. I don't know his name, though. I would be very interested in who it was and how he is connected to the Guckenberger family.

Good morning, i am very excited hearing from you, my great great grandfather was Andrew Guckenberger who was born in Iphofen in 1841 and died 1908 (so it has been told but he left the family and abandoned his 11 children in Germany to come to the US, i have no information on his brothers and sisters and mother and father, my great great grandmother , his wife was Katherine Froelich also from Iphofen, before he left they owned and lived in a beautiful "tavern/inn/" Zehntkeller, Iphofen ,i have been told by a daughter of Andrews that this is where the family lived until they were placed in an orphanage because the Mother Died and they were alone....i would be so greatly excited if we were related and somehow we figure this out, thank you so very much for making my new year for my research. take care C. my name is Kathy, thank you so much again......Happy New Year, Kathy

Dear Kathy,
thanks for replying so quickly. My girlfriend and I did some research and worked out a family tree which I have attached. My father told me, however, that the Guckenbergers from Iphofen might not have anything to do with the Guckenbergers from Seinsheim (where, as I found out, my origins are). The two villages, however, are only a few miles away from each other. But you never know, because it's not far apart.
We got back to Georg Guckenberger, who is my great grandfather. He was probably born around 1880/1890. His son Anton (my grandfather) Guckenberger came to Erlangen and remained living there. Karl Guckenberger came to Möhrendorf (Erlangen) in World War II, but then went back to Seinsheim. Might Andrew Guckenberger have been the father of Georg Guckenberger? Are you sure that his name was Andrew - because that's not a German name?! Typical German name that time might have been Andreas or Andre. I have found some information about a Michael Guckenberger (* 1895) who married a X Boscheinen. Might he have been the brother of Georg?
This is just a thought and has nothing to do with reality because we haven't found out whether Georg had brothers or sisters.
Happy new year to you too. Claus

Thank you for your reply, all i know is Andrew as his name, as i said he left his children and his wife and came to the us...he had 12 children, and there is a George and Michael, the Michael is his son , the wifes maiden name matches...but all the children came to the US once they had some money, the mother died in 1905 or thereabouts, i will go tonight to my research and dig up dates. does the name of the Tavern have any significance , i have notes that the wife's family was quite wealthy , Froelich and they owned vineyards there..... thank you....Kathy
