Hello Board,
I have just found knew data that puts the Guckenberger family in Bayern in the 1300's. I may post more on this later.
I have enclosed a Guckenberger map showing the location of the Guckenberger family around 2002 in Germany. This map displays families in the different German states in the prespective counties where they live.
You can compare this data with the German Telephone book or exsisting maps of Germany to find your family. The darker the color the higher the population, in many cases this probably suggests that the family lived in the darker area's for a longer amount of time, as the population is larger.
At the very least it may give you a hint where to look for your family in a given State.

'ON THE AMERICAN-SOVIET ZONAL FRONTIER AT HOF,
Germany, June 28 (INS)—Stories of a large-scale uranium hunt in the Soviet zone of Germany were told today by illegal refugees who have fled into the American, sector near Hof.
U. S. occupation authorities shipped 800 German refugees back to the Soviet zone last night.
About 8OOO of them have been captured and turned back in the past month. Army authories confessed, however, they are unable to cope with the great number fleeing the Soviet zone, and estimated well more than half the line crossers escape detection.
M. Guckenberger, chief border inspector at Hof, said that starvation in the Soviet area is the main cause of this new burden on an already over-populated American zone.

Today there is no Guckenberger in Hof or Kulmbach but 1 Heike Guckenberger in Coburg
