I was wondering if you had anymore information on Andrew J. Guckenberger born 1953 came to America in 1893 from Germany.

I recently came across a letter from my great-great Aunt.
Her father was Andrew J Guckenberger, he came to America in the 1890's and he never was heard from again. They thought he came out to Ohio area.

In the letter she went on to say that Andrew of one of 13 children. And that he had a brother named Joseph and sister Otilla, that were in Germany that did not come to the US. It didn't give much more info.

I am hoping that you can help, and that perhaps your family and mine are some how connected.

I tired clicking on the http://jim.ball.net/gucka1.htm link below and it does not seem to be working any longer can you send me a new link to try.
Thank you for any help you can provide

Hi Mr. Ball, i am a cousin of VAMS and we belong to the a Andrew Guckenberger, do you have any earlier pictures of Andrew? you see our Andrew abandoned his family of 13 and his wife to come to America, never to be heard from again, the mother died and the children were raised some in an orphanage and some with Andrews sisters... do you have any information on his siblings with Conrad and Katherine?

i just wrote to you a few minutes ago, i checked my tree which is on Heritage My Family Tree and I have from info handed down that my Andrew was born in 1841 in Ipofen, Germany, the years are only 12 apart, but he had children with Katherine born in 1886, 1888 the youngest ones, so this might make it impossible for your Andrew to be ours.....

This is a response to a question posted in 2007. Whatever happened to Conrad (Konrad) Guckenberger, the father of Sebastian of the Milwaukee area, and Andrew and Christian of the Marshfield area in Wisconsin? Conrad did live in Wisconsin. He was naturalized in Milwaukee County, WI on November 5, 1860. I received all of his papers from the Milwaukee County Historical Society (910 North Old World 3rd Street; Milwaukee, WI 53203).

His 1860 U. S. Census was more difficult to find because of the misspelling. The index shows a "Conrod Cookenberg" in the Town of Lake, Milwaukee County, WI. All of the other data that we know about him and his family matches. He was born in Hesse-Darmstadt about 1917. His wife was Catharine and there were seven children. The other two, Elizabetha and Unnamed, must have died in infancy.

After 1860, I couldn't find anything more about him until I came across a marriage index which lists a Conrad Guckenberger, son of Jacob Guckenberger, from Hesse -Darmstadt, living in the Town of Lake (which became Oak Creek), WI. He married Anna Hahn on May 9, 1871. I have not found a death record for Conrad's first wife Katharina, but checking into this marriage record would answer the question about whether or not this is our Conrad.
