Hi Robert,
I've got some Gubbins roots in Illinois-the Chicago area. There is also an e-group discussing all things Gubbins that you might be interested in and be able to find out more information on your family there as well. The web address is
http://www.egroups.com/list/gubbins
If you can get me some dates on your family members I'll look at what I have and try to get back to you. I have lots of John and Robert Gubbins' in my family myself.
I hope this is of some help.
Sincerely,
Beth Gubbins

Robert,
You are my second cousin, I believe that you and my father John (Jay) Francis Gubbins Jr. are first cousins, and your uncle Jack John Francis Gubbins Sr. was your uncle. My father's siblings are Cathy Gubbins, Russell Gubbins and my father Jay Gubbins. Is your father Robert (Bob) Gubbins????? Do you have any other information on your other uncles or aunt or your grandparents, which would be my great grandparents???

Your great grandfather, John Frederick Gubbins 3/1/1866-2/26/1945 was the son of Henry Gubbins (11/11/1828-11/24/1893) and Eliza Coldicott (2/4/1833-6/30/1909). Henry and Eliza farmed in the Fortney neighborhood of Edwards County, Illinois and are buried in the Fortney cemetery. They had six children (that I know of) with John Frederick Gubbins being the youngest. Henry and Eliza were originally from near Stratford-upon-Avon, England and were married 11/2/1849 in Marston Sicca, Gloucestershire, England. They were living in Marston Sicca with their oldest son, George Henry Gubbins, for the 1851 census. They were in Edwards County, Illinois for the 1860 census with children George H, Amelia, Eliza A, and Mark. The 1870 Census of French Creek Precinct, Edwards County, Illinois adds sons Thomas and John. In the 1880 Census Mark and John are still at home. In 1900 Eliza is by herself with George living next door.
