Claire - Do you mean country? It is an old English name that is also prevalent in Ireland since the 17th century.

Relative?

My mother's maiden name was Gubbins. Is it possible we're related? E-mail if there's a possibility. She was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada in 1925.

Looks like we probably aren't related. My mom's family (Gubbins) are from Hamilton Ontario Canada, and from England prior to that. Nice to hear from you, though.

My Grandfather was a Joesph Gubbins. Could be a relation but am not sure. Please contact me either through the Gubbins e-group or at JGubbins@carmel.lake.k12.il.us.

Kristina,

Have you found out who the parents are of your John Francis Gubbins???

We have Joseph Francis Gubbins in the family (my granduncle), and his parents were Thomas J. & Mary (Flaherty) Gubbins. Any connection here??? He had siblings (that we know of...) named Annie & Marie. We don't have any other information on a John Francis, but you just never know....

I see you have already had a message from Jim Gubbins (grandson of Joseph Francis...). Did you guys already exchange information???

Inquiring minds want to know...

Joe Keene

Hi Kristina,
Is it possible we are cousins? My grandfathers name is Bob and he has brothers named John, Bill and Joe. They would originate from the Chicago, Illinois area in the 1920's-30's. There were, I believe a total of 6 or 7 siblings altogether.
Sincerely,
Beth Gubbins

Jim,
You and Robert and my father John (Jay) Gubbins are first cousins. Your father would be my great uncle. John (Jack) Gubbins is my grandfather who was a Chicago policeofficer and also served in the army during the Korean War. My grandfather and your father were brothers.
