Does anyone know any information on this couple. They had to be born around 1850 to 1880. My grandfather, Margarito, was born to Conrado and Carlota in the lates 1890's
Thank you for your time,
Conrad G. Guajardo

I believe we are related. My relation to Conrado and Carlotta Guajardo is thru my father. His name is Charlie Belisario De Los Santos, Jr. His father was Charlie Belisario De Los Santos, Sr. Senior's mother was: Maria de los Angeles (Angelita) Guajardo De Los Santos. She was one of the daughters of Conrado and Carlotta.

My Great Aunt Angelita (Lita) De Los Santos Santos lives in Bee Caves, Texas and has recently written her first book on the memories of her childhood. You can find her book at Zulu.com and name of the book is, "La Familia De Los Santos". I purchased it in Dec. 2010. She says that Conrado was full blooded italian and when he and Carlotta were married, the priest couldn't say his name right and recorded it as: Guajardo. That's as far back as she is able to go. Those records were in Mexico. When they came to Texas, they settle in Thurber, Texas. Conrado eventually became part owner in a bar there. It's hard to find out more info about that. The city is a ghost town and the only history seems to be in the restaurant "The Smokehouse".

Let me know what history you have. I would be very interested in more of the family history. Lita will be publishing at least two more books I believe.

Thank you for your post. Wow! What can I say? My family an I have been stumped on Conrado (my great grandfather) for ever. I have never heard anyone mention we could be part Italian. I cant wait to research this information and share it with my family. I have two aunts, Lilian, Helen and two uncles, Jose and Robert left from my fathers (Manuel) siblings. Their father Margarito was born in Texas but ended up moving his family to Colorado where he passed in Pueblo in 1984.
I have always had a suspicion that the reason why we could not determine the parents of Conrado, was because of a change in our last name. I have heard and read many stories about families changing their surname due to racism or to escape the law. Also, in reading many census scrolls, I have noticed many mistakes when recording the information. It would not surprise me if perhaps a spanish speaking priest recording Conrado's last name would have been wrong.
I want to thank you for this information. It will be a thrill to research.

I have been looking at some of the other posts when you type in Conrado and Carlotta Guajardo and see that someone said Conrado was born in Mexico in 1875. It was my great Aunt Lita that said Conrado talked with a funny accent and that he came from Italy. Again, she was going from what she remembered in conversations with her mother (Angelita Guajardo De Los Santos. So, I don't know. There is certainly some mystery surrounding his heritage that I would like to know. I do have a picture of him and Carlotta and two sisters and a picture of Margarito and Angelita when they were very young. If you like, I can scan them in and send to your email. I think one picture is a little morbid. It's of Conrado at his wake. I don't know why they used to take pictures of the dead. But, if you like, I will share. Also, if you have any other pictures or history you could share, I would be most appreciative.

Ed,
I have been speaking thru Ancestry.com to Conrado. I believe you sent him a message that says you have more info. I also have some info and pics of Conrado and Carlotta, 3 sisters and 1 or 2 brothers. My great Aunt Lita has just written a book that references Conrado and Carlotta in the book, "La Familia De Los Santos". You can buy the book and zulu.com. I think she will be writing 2 other books. Angelita Guajardo De Los Santos was my great grandmother. Would be glad to share info. Would be glad to receive info.

Renee',
I would be very greatfull for those pictures. Now that you mentioned pictures, I am reminded of a photo of Conrado while he was alive. I think I remember it from when I was a kid, but I may be confusing it with a picture of my great grand father on my mothers side? I will find out and if it is him I will send it to you. I also have Margaritos and Marias wedding photo with their padrinos. Unfortunatly, it may take some time to dig it up.
As far as some history goes, all I know is that sometime after 1927, Margarito left Thurber and moved his family to a mining town called Delagua, CO. Which, by the way, is now a ghost town. They then moved to Pueblo, Co probably after the mine was shut down. There they stayed. My dad (after serving in WWII) and my Aunt Lilian moved to Denver. My Uncle Robert moved to Arizona. My Aunt Helen Moved to Virginia. The rest stayed in Pueblo. Charlette, Margo, Trini, Beatrice, Jose (Jess).
Little is known about Conrado and Carlota from our end. It may be possible that Margarito did not have a good relationship with his father, and maybe decided not to let his family know about him. I was too young and could not speak spanish before he died to ask him.
I do know that we have relatives in Texas, but the last time we visited them I was just a baby. From what I have been told from my parents and my older siblings that the visit did not go well and my dad decided to leave for home earlier than expected.
You know I have contacted one of my oldest 1st cousins. I think she may be able to tell me more, and when she does I will pass it on to you.
Until next time,
Conrad

Conrado,

Where do you live? I live in Texas. I'm interested to know where Ed? lives also. I spoke to my father (Charlie) and told him you are interested in a reunion. When, where and all that jazz. We have a request by my uncle in CA to have a reunion in CA around July 4th. Wonder if we could do it in the same week? Let me know specifics. You see my gmail prefix above. You can contact my email directly and it goes to my blackberry (instant messages, gotta love them).
