DARLINGTON, WI: Daniel "Danny G" Guadagno, age 86, of Darlington, WI, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Darlington.
He was born June 4, 1924 in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of Joseph and Marie (Saldicca) Guadagno.
Danny graduated from Trenton Senior High School in 1941.
He lived in Trenton before joining the United States Army in 1942. Danny was discharged in 1946.
In 1947, he moved to Darlington and in 1948 he moved back to Trenton to attend college.
In 1950, when the Korean War broke out Danny was called back into service and joined the Air Corp. Danny served in the Armed Forces for 23 years before being honorably discharged from the Air Force as a master sergeant.
He was united in marriage to Eleanor Olson on May 6, 1975 at Sandusky, OHIO. Upon his return from the Armed Forces Danny went to work for Kemper Group Insurance Company of Ohio, where he became a district manager in the claims department. He retired in 1981 and moved back to Darlington, where he has resided since.
Danny is survived by one step-son: Jon (Patti) Olson of Marion, OHIO; three step-grandchildren: April, Laura, and Phillip; one step-great-granddaughter: Christine; two brothers: Joseph (Jean) Guadagno of San Jose, CA, and Michael (Helen) Guadagno of Leesburg, FL; one sister: Bernice Tramontana of Chandler, AZ; a special friend and godson: Danny (Jane) O'Brien of Darlington and the rest of the O'Brien family; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Eleanor on February 5, 2003; one brother: Ben Guadagno; and three sisters: Julia Schuster, Lucy Tucci, and Theresa Hurst.
Danny was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #5268 of Lafayette County, and the Sons of American Legion all of Darlington, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 67, 41st Infantry Division Association, United States Air Force Association, Military Society Association, The 40 and 8 Unit of Lafayette County, and National Rifle Association.
He also served as vice commander for the Wisconsin American Legion at all levels.
Danny had articles published by the 41st Infantry Division, National Rifle Association, and American Legion magazines. He also served on the board of the Veteran Affairs Hospital, charter member and past chairman of Wisconsin Shooting Sports, and Badgers Boy State representative.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 104 East Harriet Street in Darlington.
Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery in rural Gratiot, where military graveside rites will be accorded Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214 of Darlington.
A visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place (GPS Users: 130 West Cornelia Street) in Darlington, where legion rites will be accorded at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
