Thank you

My mother's maiden name was Guadagni. Her father was Andrea Guadagni and he emigrated to the US from Carrara, Italy in the early 1910's. He had 13 children and died in 1961.
We know little of my father's family history but we ARE having a Guadagni family reunion (for my mother's family) in
Pennsylvania this summer.

Hello Nancy
It's nice to know that even my old postings are still being looked at and responded to. If you don't mind me asking. . .what is your mothers whole name(first, middle,)? Do you know where her father, Andrea Guadagni, settle in the U.S.A. and where he died? I would love to find another branch to the rich Guadagni family history. I have been working on the history for about 1-1/2 years off and on. It's hard with family and work, but I try to keep updated new info and always reply to e-mails and postings. I have found a long long lost branch to the Guadagni family. I turned out they where just a few counties away. My Guadagni mostly settled in New York and Rhode Island, we are now wide spread through the U.S.A. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Feel free to ask me any questions.

I have Nicholas Guadagni married Agnes Avello (b. 1844 or 45) in Florence, Italy. It is believed he was magistrate to the king and very wealthy but lost everything to gambling. There were definitely 2 daughters - one was Judith (b. 1874-d.1948) who went to work as a milliner in a high fashion store in Naples to help support the family after they lost the money. I am working on the other name. I have heard there were brothers but I don't know anything about them.

Judith came to Brooklyn on Feb. 23, 1906 and married Anthony DiMaio. The sister also came to Brooklyn however records are confusing. The story is that she came on the same ship as Judith but yet I can only find the name of the mother (Agnes Avello). We think she may have used the mother's name b/c 2 women wouldn't have been allowed to travel alone. However in the same ship log it is listed as Agnes Avello with 2 daughters.

The people they listed as who they were staying with is also confusing. Gavino Bellucci was listed as Judith's uncle and Agnes' brother-in-law. Gavino's family was on the same ship however and his wife's maiden name was Montano.

The unknown sister had a daughter (in Brooklyn) named Tess who married a Valenti. They had a daughter -Henrietta Valenti. She married and divorced Joe Torre's son (of the NY Yankees).

I hope some of this sounds familiar. :)

I am just now having time to really get back into my research. The names you list do not sound familar but that does not mean that there is no connection in our two families. Most of my family did originally start in New York but later migrated south to Rhode Island. Maybe we can make the connection somewhere down the line. You may e-mail me directly at guadagni_watson@comcast.net. Hope to hear from you soon.
