Our

gsellcfamily came from

swiss,

Our

gsell's came from Swiss, Dutch, Alsace. When my aunt wrote alot of the history down in 1963.she wrote that she had recently seen cheese in California with the name Gsellschaft-schaft means work. We live in Pearl City,Illinois,a small town in the NW corner of the state. TThere used to be Gsells in Morrison but I believe the last one died within the year. Mom's brother raised his family in Texas, one now in Dallas, one in Tyler and one in Virginia.

The word "Gesellschaft" which your aunt found simply means "company" - it has nothing to do with the family, only that "Gsell" or "Geselle" means comrade, compagnion.
My Gsell-ancestors come from Alsace. One branche runs a beverage wholesale compagny, whose homepage you will find under "http://alsaweb.com/gsell"

This information has been passed down to me from
family. John Gsell settled in Lancaster PA b. 1/7/1779
He married 1804 Susanna Rohrer b. 9/8/1785. One of their
children was William b.9/11/1819 married Marie
Burkhardt abt. 1840 in Morrison, IL. One of their children
who I have been following was Sarah b. 1/9/1855. She married

Joseph Leidig abt.1875 and moved to Lake Charles LA.
i would be interested in more information about
William and Marie and their children.

I also descend from John and Susanna Gsell
through their son, Rev. John Gsell. A few
years ago, I visited their gravesite at
Franklin County, PA. Interested in adding
your Gsell family line.

An uncle of mine just sent me some research done by a family member several years ago.
I would be interested in information you may have on the family. I can fill you
in on William's family and his daughter Sarah. There was mention of a family book called
Descendents of John Gsell, 1779-1873 and Susannah Royer of Frnaklin Co. Penn.
Have you heard of it? In the papers I received there is also mention of Wilhelm gesell b. abt. 1700 in the
Palatine emigrated in 1735 d. by 1748 Warwick Twp.Lancaster. But connections were not known.
A list of four children born to him: Augustine Gesell, Maudlin Gesell , Christophel Gesell and William Gesell/Sells b. abt.1748
d. May 15,1823 in Greenfield twp. Fairfield Co. Ohio. Married by 1770 to Anna dorthea Heil. Do you know the connections?
Thanks,
Robyn
