Classification: Query
Surnames: Grymes, Grimes, Patterson, Maggart, Haynes, Hayes
My suspicion that "my" Delaware Co. IN Christopher Grymes had links to particular PA and OH Grimes individuals seems now to have been confirmed. This would agree with the names in a court case in DCI (Cynthia Patterson Grymes) I have in hand in which the surname spelling is used interchangeably, and the fact that a Grimes ditch ran through the Grymes property on an old map. My particular line has continued to use the Grymes spelling throught later generations. (See my prior notes on Rootsweb Message Boards).

Per new information from another researcher -- Christopher Grimes was born in 1818; in 1845 when Christopher was 27, he first married Catherine Maggart, in Champaign Co., OH who was born in 1817 in OH. (Catherine died in 1856, she was 39). They had the following children: David, born 1846 in CCO, Benjamin, born 1849 in CCO, Isabella, born 1849 in CCO, Edgar (my line) born 1852 in CCO, G. F., born 1850 in CCO, and S. C., born in 1854 also in CCI.

On 03 June 1856, when Christopher Grimes was 38, he remarried to Cynthia Ann Patterson, in Champaign Co. OH, who was born in 1843 in CCO. They apparently had one child, only, Mary, born in 1860 in CCO.

It appears that Christopher's father was Benjamin Grimes, born 1764 in PA, and who died in CCO in 1864, age 100. Benjamin Grimes was married Catherine Haynes (or Hayes), born 1775 in PA. Catherine died in CCO, she was 89. Their offspring: Mary Polly, Elizabeth, Isabella, David, William, Christopher (my line), Josephus, Daniel, Rachel and Margaret who died as a child. All of the Grimes children were born in PA or OH, most born in PA (possibly Bedford Co. or Northumberland).

Per another kind and helpful researcher, the majority of these children immigrated to IN.
