Mr. William Harry Fay, CWO, U.S. Army, Retired, 88, of Shenk Ave., Erie, Pa. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 28, 2008. He was born March 10, 1920 in Bloomfield Township, Crawford Co.
the son of the late Kenneth L. and Florence (Hall) Fay. He served in WW II, in the United States Army, the Caribbean area, the South Pacific Theatre, including New Guinea and the Philippines and later in France, from 1940 to 1963, and was awarded four Bronze Stars, and the Army Commendation Medal for Meritouous Service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion, Post 773 of Millcreek, Pa. He enjoyed doing maintenance on military vehicles as well as his antique Ford Fairlawn.
He was married to the former Irene Daley in Union CIty, Pa. on October 21, 1944. He was employed as a young man by a local saw mill and learn to operate a tract-tractor to skid out the logs, then went in to the Military Service. After serving in the military he was then employed by Hilton Enterprise for maintenance of earth moving equipment, as a mechanic for Poplar White Truck Co., and at Erie International Airport where he maintained their mowing, snow removal and emergency generator equipment, until his retirement due to ill health and failing eyesight. He enjoyed his family and being able to help others in repairs of their various pieces of equipment. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son: William Harry Fay Jr. in 1947. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Irene (Daley) Fay of Erie, Pa.,
two daughters; Wilma Jean Driver and Nancy Grygier and her husband Scott all of Erie, Pa.
two sons; Frank Fay and his wife Deborah of Erie, Pa. and James Fay and his wife Ella May of Alabama,
three sisters; Joyce Newton and her husband Bob of North East , Pa.
Katurah Darling and her husband Marvin of Georgia,
and Leta Bowersox and her husband Harry of Saegertown, Pa.
a brother; Clair Post and his wife Dorothy of New York.
And a sister-in-law Mrs. Betty Fay of Corry, Pa. Eight Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren also survive. Friends are invited to call at the Glenn Funeral Home, 62 South Main Street, Union City, Pa. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and attend Funeral Services there on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Linda Chambers will officiate with interment in Evergreen Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
