Hello,
I am writing a book on the family. I am a ggggg grandson of Conrad Grider of Lincoln Co., NC and have contacted many Grider/Gryder descendants. I have a database of 8000+ Grider/Gryders and would love to include you if you are a Grider/Gryder too! I am in search of older Grider/Gryder pictures and info for the book. There are very many versions of the origins of the ancestors. Most believe they came to PA via the Palatine emigration. From PA some went to VA then on to KY. Another group went to NC, with some staying and others branching out mostly to KY and westward. While still another set came in apparently in or around SC. All came to America in the early half of 18th century. Please contact if you wish to contribute any info! I am going to be as thorough as possible! Ray G. Gryder, II; 3008 Homestead Dr., Petersburg, VA 23805-2345. Thanks!!!

My Great Grandfather was Chester Grider. His parents were Dave Grider and Sarah Pruelt. Dave's parents were Cornelius Grider and Caroline Lyles. Cornelius was born around 1823 in Kentucky. I am searching for his parents. If you can help, I would be most appreciative. Cornelius was also married to a Nancy C. (from the 1860 Tenn. census) Thank You for any help.

Hi! Glad to hear from you on this Grider family. Cornelius was son of Silas Grider who was a son of the Rev. War soldier John Grider (wife: Isabell Blair). I can provide you with an outline of Cornelius and his descendants. There is a woman in Midway, Arkansas that has quite a bit of info on this particular family that you may want to contact. Her name is Gracelin Censer. If you could e-mail your home address to rggryder@dscr.dla.mil so that I can send you the info I have. Gracelin will be excited to talk with you! If you would, please send whatever info you have on your known family: births, deaths, marriages, full names, etc. so that I may update what I have in my tree. Thanks so much for replying to my note!!

Thanks!

Thank you for the information on Cornelius Grider. I happened to gather the information that I do have on the Grider family from Gracelin Censer. My greatgrandfather was Chester Grider, son of Dave Grider and Sarah Pruelt. I talked to Lester Grider's widow Eloise and she gave me Gracelins address. Gracelin hand wrote the names up to Cornenius but if you have any information that goes along with that on computer, perhaps you could do a GEDCOM file for me. I would be glad to give you the decendants of Chester Grider. I don't have all of the Birthdates as of yet, but I am working on them. I would prefer that all living relatives be kept private at this time as I do not have permission to pass that information along. I am really happy to have the information about Silas Grider and his father. Who was Silas Griders' wife? Do you have further information?

Thanks again. Kim

I will be happy to send you computer printouts of Silas' descendants, so when I get your info on Dave Chester's descendants I'll send you what I have unless You can provide a mailing address for me. Thanks so much for your help! Glad you have gotten Gracelin's info. Look forward to your info. PS any dates you don't won't used because of privacy just don't include, but where you can provide full names please do. Thanks again!!! Have a great weekend!!

If you are really doing a book, you might be interested in this contribution. I don't know how this fits...these Gryder/Griders don't know us but we are probably related...I will never know how due to hard feelings on my 84 yr. old grandmother's part. If anyone sees a connection and would fill me in, I'd appreciate it very much. My great grandfather was James V. Gryder, b. 1867 in Miss., m. to Jessie (Unknown), b. 1873 in Ar., their children were Gladys, Norma, Carrol, Mary, Joseph b. 1911? in Tn.,William, Sarah. Joseph was my grandfather married at age 20 to my 15 year old grandmother Evelyn Aileen Brogdon. they had two daughters Margaret Faye b. 1932 and Bonnie b. 1933? They divorced right after the second child..My grandmother was still probably only about 17 yrs old. She kept Margaret (my mother) and Joseph kept Bonnie. I don't know what awful thing caused Joseph to send Bonnie to a Tenn. orphanage but she ended up being adopted by a well-to-do family. Aunt Bonnie lives in Florida. Margaret was shuffled around alot from relative to relative on Evelyn Aileen's side. Finally resided with her mom and was adopted by E. Aileen's third husband Paul West. Mom married Ted J. Oswalt (deceased) in 1954. They had four children...Debra, Carol, Linda, and Larry. We are all grown and married with children except for Larry...Does anyone know any Grider/Brogdon secrets? My grandmother is bitter to this day and won't tell my mother anything about her father. Thanks, Debra

Debra,
Thanks for the e-mail! Great info! I will check my database but I don't believe I have him in it. I wonder if you might write to me with more details (if you have any, like full names and full dates and place names, burial locations and of course let me know about any old photos) on these Gryders. Do you have a guess as to who James' parents were? Sounds like a pretty wild situation with Bonnie and Margaret. Did Bonnie marry or have any children? Hey, when it comes to those situations you have to sometimes ask other relatives for clues or be persistant with the person who is not forthcoming with any info. Would love to correspond with you further on this. Please US mail any info, no matter how little, it adds another piece to the puzzle. With a little work we should be able to connect them in to the Gryder tree. Again thanks for writing. I am willing to share what ever I have with you so lets try and make a connection! Here is my home address below.
Thanks,

Not sure what you mean Jerry? Please elaborate. Have only responded to the queries there. Have not removed anything.
Sorry I can't help. We've had previous correspondence? I have so many Grider/Gryder folks I talk to, please refresh my memory. Thanks!

Debra,
I checked my database and ran across a family that I have yet to connect into the tree (which I have many like that) but I include them in with whatever I can piece together. So, check this and see if it rings any bells. Remember too that I not sure of some of it as well. Let me know if you can make a connection as it seems to match some of the names you listed:
1 ??? Gryder
+???
2 Guy Caroll Gryder
+???
3 Otis Andrew Gryder
+???
3 Carroll William Gryder
3 Jenean Gryder
2 William G. Gryder
2 Joe Gryder
2 Norma Gryder
+??? Rhinehart
2 Gladys Gryder
+??? Geihler
2 Montie Gryder
+??? Lamey
2 George Gryder
+Mary C. Boring?

Please review and let me know if anything connects. Hope this helps. Thanks!
