Hu Michael,
I'm researching surname Grubin, and I found that Gruben is Germa origin.
If you go on:http://www.infokey.com/hon/
and search for Grubin surname you will find that it's German origin and
some other details. I ordered from this company a search and they send
me a letter with some history and family Coat of Arms.
Letter I received from Int. Hall of names is full of history which you
can find in books. The only interesting is that Grubins where German
Knights from 1774 and that they were divided in Austrian, Danish and
Swedish branch. The Swedish branch raised to nobility in 1645, German
Knights became Barons in 1805. and Austrian branch became Barons in
1867. Grubins emigrated to USA (Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas,
California, New York, Ohio) and Canada (Ontario and Prairies) in 17th,
18th and 19th century. But they did not send me any names or more info.
In the text I received from them sometimes they write Gruben and other times Grubin.
Thay say that is Gruben is right spelling for pronouncing Grubin.
Any way Grube is mine on German.

All the best and good luck in your search,

Aleksandra

My great-grandfather was Rant Gruben from Germany. His brothers came to America with him, John and Epki (I don't know the correct spelling of Epki). My aunt, Dr. Mary E. Childress of Longview TX has done extensive geneology on the Grubens. Our Grubens settled in West Texas as farmers. Contact me if you think you are related to me.

It was very nice to hear from you. I do believe that
there is a good chance I am kin to these Grubens you spoke
about. My great-grandfather was from Germany. His name
was Daine, and my grandfather's name was Eugene. My father's
name is Ellis. They all lived in and around Rotan, Texas.
They did do some farming. Eugene worked for the Railroad.
I would love to see the information that your Aunt has come
up with, and would be happy to fill any any missing links if needed.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Grubens

We are very very likely related because my Grubens
lived at Rotan also. My great-grandfather was Rant Gruben and his wife was Louise Brinkman Gruben. I believe they met and married in Texas in the mid 19th century. Have you heard of Sena? She was my grandmother's sister, and she always lived around Rotan. We all called her Aunt Senie, and her maiden name was Gruben. My grandmother was Sophie Gruben Ragan, and she died in 1964 at around age 82 in Greenville, Texas. My aunt who does all the geneology does not use computers, but she has a lot of info, and in fact found the Gruben family in Germany and visited them a few years ago.
Can you find out which relative of yours came from Germany? The name Daine sounds very familiar, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was the son of Rant (pronounced "Rent") and the brother of my grandmother, Sophie. I seemed to remember my aunts and uncles talking about Uncle Daine. (Pronounced like DAYNIE)
I am taking all this from memory because I don't
have any written records. If you really want to know the
scoop, you have to call my aunt or go visit her in
Longview. She is still a practicing optometrist in Longview,
even though she is about 83 or 84. You'd never know she
was that old. She's sharp as a tack and so tiny, a gust of
wind could almost blow her over, except it wouldn't dare!
She looks very much like her mother, Sophie, but she does
not have a Gruben personality. But she is very persistent,
and she located the Grubens in Germany, near Bremen. I
lived in Germany back in 1969-70 but at the
time did not know I was living in the very area where
the Grubens live now. They all live near each other in
this little town. They were thrilled to meet Aunt Mary,
and one of them had done extensive geneology and
wondered whatever became of the 3 brothers.
Aunt Mary told them the 3 brothers came to America,
and there are many Grubens and descendants in Texas.
They exchanged geneologies, so if you want to
go to Germany and meet them, just call Aunt Mary.
Her home number is (903) 758-2592. I believe her
office number is (903) 753-4437. Carl is her son,
and is also an optometrist. You could also write
her a letter and she would respond. She might send
you copies of stuff.

There is also another Gruben whom I know in Houston.
Karl Gruben is the head law librarian for Vinsen-Elkins
Law Firm. His great great grandfather, Epkie, was the brother
of my great grandfather. Karl isn't terribly interested in
geneology.

I am afraid I have now told you all I know!

I am in the process of putting together the Greman
side of my family. My Great-Grandfather Daine Gruben's
father and his three brothers came over on a
boat from Gremany. (I think that is right) I have found
out some pretty good info. so far. Did any
of your relatives settle around central Texas?
(Rotan-Roby Texas) That is where the majority
of mine are from. If you are interested I will forward
any info. that might be relevant to you.
