I can give you directions to the cemetery where she and many of her decendants are buried.

The Cemetery is Pea Creek Cemetery it is on a dirt road outside of Louisville. Ave is my 3rd Great Grandmother.

A few of the headstones/markers have been removed or disturbed. There is now a large marker that notes who is buried on one of the rows it reads as followes:

Buried herein are the remains of Brett A. Grubbs and his wife Ave. They came to Barbour County from Chesterfield District South Carolina before 1850. Ave was a Cherokee Indian. Also buried are the other members of Bretts's Family

Brett A. Grubbs b. 1818 Chesterfield South Carolina
d. Barbour Co., Alabama

Ave (Maria) Grubbs b. 1825 S.C.
d. May 10, 1897 Louisville, Alabama

Fannie Lou Grubbs b. 1853
d.

"Babe" wife of John Grubbs b.
d.

Charlie Banks b.
Brother of "Babe" d.

Rachel Ann Grubbs b. 1840 Barbour Co.,
d.

I need help documenting the connection between Bretton and his father and "Babe"

My father's grandfather was John Nabors Grubbs, son of Allen Nabors Grubbs, son of John Grubbs and Babe Banks. I am also looking for more documentation on Babe, as many of the family trees list John's wife as "Elizabeth", sometimes "Elizabeth Ramsey". It would be interesting to know if
Babe was a nickname for Elizabeth. I took the Ancestry.com DNA test and it shows <1% Native American DNA for me, and Babe is so far the only possible candidate. I've also looked for anything on Charles Banks, with no success.

The trail to Enoch Grubbs, father of John Grubbs is somewhat well documented. Past that, I don't know. Most of the family were in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, then Mississippi and Texas. The Howell's, Shelton's, Grubbs, Boones and Cheatwood's had several intermarriages.

My email address is davidgrubbs59@bresnan.net

Thanks
David Grubbs

Sounds like you are looking for Ave "Maria" Grubbs, maiden name may be Mooty or Moody. She married Britton (Brett) A. Grubbs bat 1840 in Chesterfield SC. Brett was born Oct 1816 in Chesterfield, and died 11 Jun 1902 in Louisville, Barbour Co AL. They are both buried in the Pea Creek Baptist Cemetery, southwest of Clayton AL. The GPS coordinates are Lat 31.83160; long -85.57970. Ave was supposedly born about 1825 in Chesterfield, and died 10 May 1897. Everything seems to match except for the 1750 date. Brett's father was John Grubbs, who supposedly also married a Cherokee. Her name was "Babe" Banks, and she had a brother named Charles who is also buried in the same graveyard. I wish I knew her full name. John Grubbs is my 3rd great grandfather.
Hope this helps.

Surnames: Callahan Collinsworth Grubbs
"Babe" is thought to be my niece's great-great grandmother and John Grubbs was her second marriage. Her full name was Elizabeth Piedy Jane Callahan Collinsworth Grubbs. Died 1920. Rumor has it that she was a full blooded Cherokee but I've found no connections to that. You can reach her at dkcraw52@wmconnect.com.
