YOUNGSTOWN – Private memorial services will be held for Ode J. Grubb Sr., 87, who passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015.
Ode was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) the son of the late Robert C. and Grace (Riley) Grubb, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from Aug. 4, 1945, to Aug. 10, 1946.
After the war, Ode returned to the Youngstown area.
He was a superintendent for the Cafaro Corporation for 30 years, retiring in the early 1980s.
In 1948, he became a member of The Carpenters & Joiners Union Local 171 in Youngstown, Ohio
Ode was in construction and built porches and decks for family and friends.
After his retirement, he continued woodworking, building wishing wells, bird houses and yard signs, which he sold.
He was a hard worker and had a great sense of humor that he passed onto his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Ode is survived by a son, Ode J. (RoseAnn) Grubb Jr. of Youngstown; a daughter, Sherrie J. Wolfe of Austintown; four grandchildren, Jodi Grubb, Bonie Grubb Bierig, Aymie Hittle and Corie Hittle; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Ode was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, the former Jacqueline “Jackie” M. Dolne, whom he married on Jan. 20, 1950, and died April 22, 2007; a brother, Robert Grubb; and a sister, Dorathe Kerester.
