John Robert "Bob" "J.R." Grubaugh
MANSFIELD: John Robert "Bob" "J.R." Grubaugh, 84, of Mansfield, Ohio (Richland County) passed away Saturday morning, June 1, 2013 after an extended battle with Alzheimer's.
He was under the care of his loving wife, MedCentral Hospice and the VNA when he passed.
Bob was born September 14, 1928 in Fredericktown, Ohio (Knox County) to the late Thomas and Gladys (Bowman) Grubaugh.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and volunteered to go to Korea in place of his friend.
He retired from Tappan Company after 37 1/2 years of service and was a member of the Tappan 25-year Club.
He could often be found working around the house or yard and completing his little projects in the garage.
Bob owned a Lyman boat and enjoyed fishing as often as possible.
After his illness, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching people and ducks in the park.
Bob put everyone else's needs before his own and was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
He was the best husband, dad and friend anyone could have.
On June 12 he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage to the love of his life, Beverly J. (Ferguson) Grubaugh.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jamie R. Shoffstall of Mansfield, Ohio; three grandchildren, Misty Sofranko (Chris Finnegan), Skyler Shoffstall and Joey Fanello; four great-grandchildren, Anthony "Tony" Shoffstall, Kyle and Erik Sofranko and Aarian King; special nephews, Kenneth and Keith Bower; and three sisters, Martha Nugent, Leona Mae Huggins and Mable Morton.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Lou Grubaugh Fanello in August 2010; brother, Thomas "Boone" Grubaugh; and his parents.
Friends and family may visit from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, OH.
A funeral service conducted by Rev. Carl W. Cunfer will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors presented by the U.S. Army.
