My Great Grandfather was Robert Gross who married June Shiedler in Chicago, IL. He was born in Dover, OH and his fathers name was Frederick John Gross who married Nora Myra Underwood. I can't find any info prior to that either. They were certainly German, my grandma says he spoke with a thick accent. 1880 birth, 1931 death.
