Yahoo with NO WARNING deleted more than 100 pages of family genealogy from this site for no apparent reason. We lost all kinds of information that we had spent a long time accumulating and putting online. However most of what we had we have back ups of. If you are related to us, please do not hesitate to contact us regarding the Groner family.

Hi Marcia:
I was just looking around for more information on our side of the family and came across these notes from a number of years ago.
It is interesting to me that you are holding Groner reunions for Valentine's family. Valentine is my husband's 1st cousin - four times removed. His father John is the brother of Solomon who is my husband's 3rd Great Grandfather.
We also hold a reunion every August - sometimes in New York, sometimes in Pennsylvania and sometimes in Ohio for our side of the family. Nice to know that others are trying to keep this family name going.

Hello, I find that very interesting. I think looking for godparents can be a good clue. I went my back to my notes of researching in Ft Wayne, IN. In Northampton Co. churches, roll 564 & 565 I find a Sidonia Kroner partaking in communion on 5-19-1804, and Elizabeth Croner as early as 1775. Issac Croner age 18 confirmed 4-12-1816 father Jacob. The church listed as Salem Lutheran & Ref. Moore Twp, Northampton Co. later Leigh County.

Beverly and other Groner researchers:
I'm sorry I have not done research in years but came across your posts. I am descended from Hans Jacob m. to Anna Maria Elsasser > Hans Jacob m. unknown > Andrew > Jacob > Jacob A. > Edward Louis. Jacob A. was born in PA and moved to Michigan. Jacob A. brother was Amos that moved to Albert Canada. I grew up hearing stories of Amos' family in Red Deer Alberta. I think I have a picture of them in front of their sod house somewhere. As to the question about females...I have none listed. And in Jacob A's family pictures it's all men and I know there were 2 sisters. I have a diary one of the sister's wrote on a trip to Albert with my great grandfather Edward Louis & family shortly after Amos & family moved there. Probably 3 or 4 pictures over the years and only men! Let me know if you need anything else and I'll dig up what I can find.
Terry Ann

Thank you for this new information re: Sidonie KRONER at Salem Lutheran & Reformed in Northampton Cty, PA in 1804. There is a great possibility that the Isaac (age 18 in 1812), whose father is named as Jacob, and whom you name as confirmed at this same church is OUR Isaac, son of our ancestor Jacob. This gives us hope that this is the clue we need to connect Jacob and Sidonie as our ancestors! We are very grateful that you continue to monitor this list and we will follow your lead! THANKS!

Beverly Harem Hermes

I just recently became a Groner. My husband's family is from meta missouri and it seems likely that we may be connected to your family. My husbands grandfather is now deceased but his name is isidore. I thought you might have him listed as a decendant. We'll have to talk to his dad and see if we can't get isidore's father's name. Anyway, I just thought I'd see if you could help us find out more.

My grandfather was Stanton Joseph Groner, a descendant of Hans Jacob (Van) Groner (Kroner). I have no idea where I got the information from (my grandmother, the wife of Stanton Joseph Groner).
I don't have any daughters recorded for Jacob, B. 1754 and I don't have a wife.
I have made a family tree. I have it in word if you would like it. I have Samuel, William John, Andrew, Isaac and Solomon as Jacob's children.
In 1906 descendants came to Alberta, Canada from Pennsylvania. I have 25 cousins from 6 children of Stanton Joseph Groner.

Clarence Groner and Gladys Macklem were my grandparents. They had one natural born son Clarence Raymond Groner, Jr. who was my father. They also adopted a daughter - Mary. I am interested in learning about the heritage of my family. My grandparents, Clarence and Gladys died around 1973 and we never saw any of my dads relatives until his death in 1996 and some of the family showed up to the funeral home to introduce themselves. Would love to reconnect and create a family tree for my children now that my dad is gone.

Thanks!

Jennifer Groner-Stilwell

I am a Groner...from the Peace contry...My father is Larry Allan Groner. His father was George Groner...a tank mechanic during the 2nd world war..I believe. I know very little about my father´s family on his father´s side. His wife (my grandmother) was Hilda Rosin (Herte Emme - forgive spelling). Some one on my father´s side was a founder of Tomahawk - a small Alberta town..based on masonry materials, I think. I´m not sure if this is the Groners or the Rosins...my dad has vague info and his parents are deceased. I haven´t heard of a Walter...but I have never asked. Likely though...I am related even today..I am of the only Groner family found in the Peace Country. I´d love to get some info.

Marcia,

I was rereading your post from last fall and wondering if you ever came across the name Sidonie (female)Groner/Krohner/Kroner in records you were searching in Northampton County, PA. Sidonie is a name we see twice in female descendants of our Hans Jacob Groner, b ca 1754. We found Sidonie Kroner and Jacob Kroner as godparents (sponsors) for Jacob MacKay 13 Oct 1806 at the Union Church (aka Hamilton Church)in Northampton County. We have been unable to discover the name of our Hans Jacob's wife, so just a thought that, perhaps, this couple is our Hans Jacob and wife.

Beverly Hermes
Minnesota

I believe that the Michael Groner (born Sept. 6, 1810) and Maria Newland (1819-1908) that you referred to in your posting were the parents of my gr- grandmother, Veronia Groner (West)

Veronia's brothers, Stephen and Henry, were killed in the tragic oil rig fire outside of Clarendon, PA in 1881. I have the entire Oil City Derrick account of that accident, if you'd be interested.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for posting and hope to be talking with you soon...

Regards,

Steve West
Athens, OH
