Descendants of Solomon Grogg (b.1784 in PA) to confirm family relationship.

It is my desire to establish whether or not my Grogg line is related to the Solomon Grogg line. My ancestors were Philip Grogg (b.1773) and his father Henry. There have been various speculations about Henry's ancestry but nothing that seems conclusive to me. These men and families lived in Pendleton Co., VA (now WVA). Some believe that Henry went to VA from PA and could have been related to Solomon's line. The only way that I know to find out is by a DNA test. So I am trying to find a male Grogg of the Solomon line who would be willing to have a DNA test done. I would be willing to cover the cost as it would help me in my research. If you fit the description and would be willing please let me know.

Fred Grogg
unknown Swiss female Grogg married to Greek James Secord

I am looking for the first name of a woman by the last name of Grogg who died in 1929 in the USA. She was born in Switzerland and married a man named James Secord b. 1894,and who was born in Greece. Both of his parents were also born in Greece according to a 1930 US Census. I found him living in California with a Spero Mitchell, his business partner. They ran a small bar in California together. I cannot find any other records of James Secord. He may be the same James Secord who died in 1980 in Ventura , CA and buried there in Carpinturia cemetary. James Secord and female Grogg had a son, James Secord and a daughter Jeane Secord. The children were given to female Grogg's sister, Emma Grogg Schudel and Oscar Max Schudel who adopted and raised the two children. The children's names were changed to Schudel and they grew up in Toledo , Ohio. The daughter died in her 20's of a brain tumor and the son, James (Secord) Schudel died 3 yrs ago. He tried to find his father before he died but never could. Now a grand daughter is trying to find her grand mother and grand father's graves in California. The father never contacted his children again after Oscar and Emma Schudel took them back to Toledo , Ohio to grow up.

Hi, there are still quite a few Grogg's in the area of Northern Switzerland. We did look in a few telephone books and saw several. If you are interested I am sure you could follow this lead as there was a family who helped maintain the chronical we looked at in Luzerne, if I am not mistaken they lived in the Basel area.
Do you live in Europe?

Greetings, John

I am not living in Europe but in Wisconsin. I went to Switzerland & had really good results searching for my roots. My descendents are the Dallenbachs from Aeschlen. The Groggs name came up when a nice old Swiss farmer tried to help me find some records. It seems everyone in Switzerland knows where people are from by there family name. I have become an arent reacher.
Patricia

My huasband & I also visited that ares as my grandmother was from Harris.(Daellenbach)
The reson I am writing you, is becaues while we were there doing our search, several people helped us. One gave us the name and address of a Susanna Grogg In Bern who he said was the Historian for Harris. This information got buried with all our photos, etc. & I never acted on it. Do you know if this is worth pursuing?
Patricia

The family was in Ohio for the census in 1880 and moved to Indiana sometime after that. The family was in Indiana before 1900. I will try to e-mail some more info. It seems that I haven't done much with genealogy lately, but I will try to catch up.

Fred

Solomon Grogg (1784 – 1841)

Solomon Grogg was said to have been born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in 1784. There is rumor of a Grogg family bible listing his father’s name as Jacob, but this is unconfirmed at this time. Sometime before about 1806, he married Mary Snyder, daughter of John Schneider (see Schneider/Snyder family). About 1810 they removed from Pennsylvania with their first two sons, John and Abraham, to Plain Township in Stark County, Ohio. There he toiled as a farmer without, apparently, much fortune until his death in 1841 at the age of 57. Every family history to be found points out that his children worked the farm as opposed to seeking higher education due to the family’s limited circumstances. He is buried in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Plain Township on the edge of Canton, Ohio.

My daddy was Waldo Sheridan Grogg, born in Gilmore Co, WVa 06-05-1920, his daddy was Jasper Newton Grogg and his mama was Margaret. I understand that some of his older siblings were "half" and their last name was Wilson. ANY information would be appreciated to help me get started.
